We have investigated the electroabsorption due to the Franz–Keldysh effect in GaInP/AlGaInPp-i-ndouble heterostructures grown by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy. The simultaneous evaluation of transmission and photocurrent measurements allowed an accurate determination of the field dependent absorption coefficient of ordered and disordered GaInP alloys. For ordered and disordered material, similar changes of the absorption coefficient as high as 4000 cm−1have been observed for field changes of&Dgr;E=250kV/cm. Thermally disordered samples, however, showed a degradation of the electrical and optical properties. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
The excitation of a long range surface mode in the visible region is reported. Using a vacuum evaporated silver film in a nearly symmetric embedding of two spincoated polymer films, a full spectrum of resonance lines in the angular reflectivity of the multilayer is recorded. In addition to the plasmon resonance of the Ag layer and the metal film enhanced leaky modes of the outer polymer film, the additional resonance is identified. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
Real time detection of pulsed laser surface melting was performed by analyzing the photoacoustic signals produced on the samples. Comparison between the amplitudes of the transversal and longitudinal waves allowed us to identify the fluence thresholds for surface melting. The method was tested with AISI 304 stainless steel samples and the results obtained were checked against direct metallographic analysis. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.
