摘要:
The Ge (100) surface adsorbs Cs and O2in the same manner as does the Si (100) surface, but the resulting Ge/Cs/O surface does not exhibit negative electron affinity (NEA). Both Cs and O2are adsorbed in an ordered way—each adsorbate exhibiting the same 2 × 2 LEED pattern as the clean Ge substrate. Cs must be adsorbed before O2if the final Ge/Cs/O surface is to be ordered. The spectral photoemission data from the Ge/Cs (100) surface shows a threshold at 1.56 eV, while the threshold of the Ge/Cs/O surface is 1.12 eV, both of which are not band‐gap limited. From both the Ge/Cs and the Ge/Cs/O (100) surfaces, photoemission is characterized by hot electron emission over a positive energy barrier at the surface.

摘要:
The metallic manganese is vaporized in an alumina tubing in a tantalum heater. The vapor is pumped by utilizing a pulsed current through the tube. The laser power output, laser pulse width, and energy density in the lasant as functions of temperatures of the metal are measured and presented.

摘要:
A single‐stage flash‐lamp‐pumped waveguide dye laser amplifier is presented. A Pyrex cylindrical dye cell filled with a rhodamine 6G solution in ethanol acts as an active hollow dielectric waveguide for the light to be amplified. Over‐all efficiency and absolute energy gain are about one order of magnitude larger than for a conventional single‐pass dye laser amplifier. Such a device can be conveniently used when inserted, with suitable couplers, in an optical waveguide system.

摘要:
Two‐beam tilt {111} lattice images were made of dislocations in germanium crystals deformed by compression or torsion. {110} slices were cut out normal to the main glide planes and chemically thinned. The displacement field was measured around a 60° dislocation running normally through a foil cut from a twisted crystal, which gave a lattice image with perfect symmetry about the terminating fringe. After suitable correction, the measured width on the Peierls‐Nabarro model was 5.2 Å, about a factor of 2.5 greater than expected from a theory by Labusch. The measurement involved the assumption that a direct correspondence exists between fringe and lattice plane positions in the special case studied.
