摘要:
The LEED pattern characteristic of a regular structure of the (111) surface of &bgr;‐rhombohedral boron was obtained after heating at temperatures higher than 1400 °C. As indicated by Auger spectroscopy, this treatment is sufficient to eliminate oxygen and carbon, the main impurities present on the initial surface. A small amount of nitrogen remains on the surface. The LEED pattern observed in these conditions is in agreement with the unit mesh of the bulk (111) planes.

摘要:
An optical detection configuration is described in which a magnetically saturated piece of the same crystal that is under observation is used as a compensating crystal. The mathematical description is simple and general and allows a demonstration of the absolute maximum intensity that can be achieved for the bright domains when the dark domains are totally extinguished. An important practical advantage is achieved because the detector is automatically optimized at all wavelengths regardless of dispersion.

摘要:
A new type of magnetic bubble, which we call ``compensation bubble'', is observed as a limiting case of a Bloch wall bubble in (111) wafers of Y3Fe5−tGatO12with a cylindrical compensation plane that arises from a radial gradient of the Ga contentt. The relevant material parameters are measured and the structure of the compensation wall forming the compensation bubble is investigated.

摘要:
We have measured the relative Raman scattering cross sections of O3(referred to N2) and the depolarization ratios at four argon‐ion laser pump frequencies to be, respectively, 2.3 and 0.05 at 20 981 cm−1, 2.5 and 0.03 at 20 487 cm−1, 2.8 and 0.04 at 20 135 cm−1, and 2.2 and 0.10 at 19 430 cm−1. The estimated uncertainty in cross section is ±12% and in depolarization, ±0.01, although the cross sections at different frequencies are thought to intercompare to ±5% or less. An improved sample preparation technique was used. We found no dependence of cross section on pressure and only weak evidence for any resonance dependence on pump frequency.

摘要:
Contrary to assertions by Tracy that soft x‐ray appearance potential spectroscopy cannot be applied to semiconductors and insulators, we have encountered no obstacles in obtaining good spectra from both classes of materials. In addition to previously published spectra of boron and transition‐metal oxides, we present 1sand 2pspectra of clean silicon.
