摘要:
30Ss from 3 student religious groups (Student Christian Movement, Evangelical Union, Newman Society) and 10 atheist students judged the logical validity of 24 religious syllogisms and 16 neutral syllogisms. Results indicate thatSs' evaluation of the religious syllogisms is influenced by their religious attitude, critical ability, and intolerance of ambiguity; that the fundamentalist EU group is highest in dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity and the atheist group lowest; and that Ss high in intolerance of ambiguity tend to be relatively low in critical ability.

摘要:
The phenomenon of melodic interval is described, is distinguished from pitch, and is associated with its physical correlate log frequency ratio. Techniques for measuring performance in tasks of perception of intervals and scales are examined, and a calibrated musical instrument, amelometer, is described. Methods of computation for the results of psychophysical experiments are provided. After a comparison of speech perception and melody perception, bringing out suggestive analogies, some problems for research are outlined. These include the degree and incidence of melody deafness (colloquially tone deafness), the development of melody perception in children and musicians, and inter‐cultural comparisons of perceptual ability for interval

摘要:
A statistical decision theory of simple RT is outlined. The theory is based on the view that simple reactions are prepared responses elicited by the triggering of a response release mechanism which can be pre‐set byS, and treatsS's setting of this mechanism as a statistical decision process. The theory is applied with some success to findings concerning the stimulus intensity‐RT relationship, motor and sensory preparation, the distribution of RTs, the effect of forewarning signals, the Donders' a‐and c‐type reactions and so‐called psychological refractoriness. It is suggested that the theory may provide a basis for a more adequate conceptual treatment of

摘要:
An experiment is described, using 20 Ss in a serial auditory RT task, which demonstrates sequential effects of manipulation of stimulus intensity from trial to trial. No such effects are demonstrated with the manipulation of pitch of stimuli. The obtained results confirm predictions from a statistical decision model of simple RT and are interpreted as an adaptation level effect. The finding is utilised to explain previously established differences between the performance of normals and schizophrenics in serial RT tasks.

摘要:
Two tests of temporal integration were included in a battery with tests of five other mental abilities (general intelligence, verbal ability, spatial ability, meaningful memory and span memory). Test scores from 217 Ss were intercorrelated and factor analysed. Five significant and identifiable factors emerged. These factors could be interpreted as representing the other abilities tested, but no factor of temporal integration could be demonstrated.

摘要:
In two experiments judgments of kinesthetic horizontality were compared following two conditions of exposure to kinesthetic stimulation from a bar tilted at 20°. In the first conditon 5 received visual information transformed by a prism system such that at a physical tilt of 20° the bar appeared horizontal. In the second conditionSreceived false information from a dial reading that the bar was horizontal when it was physically tilted at 20°. The two conditions were found to produce similar aftereffects in post‐exposure judgments of kinesthetic horizontality. This was interpreted as showing that the behavioural compensation which arises whenSperforms some task utilising a transformed sensory channel is mediated by a learning process in which the kinesthetic inputs used to control motor‐responses are reclassified in terms of visual infor

摘要:
The objectives of this study were to compare the performance of 3 species on the Hebb‐Williams Elevated Pathway Test (EPT) and to compare their EPT performance with that on the Closed Field Test (CFT). Results were considered in terms of overall performance and difficulty order of test problems. As with the CFT, the EPT did not differentiate, in terms of overall performance, between rats and rabbits. Cats performed significantly more efficiently than either rats or rabbits. The order of difficulty of problems was found to be consistent within species but differed rather markedly between species. Correlations between the two tests were found to be high and significant for rats and rabbits but not for cat

摘要:
Recent studies of the kinesthetic spatial aftereffect have involved freedom of movement of the limb during both stimulation and testing. Details are given of the size of the effect when movement is restricted to the single set of joint receptors at the shoulder and when the joints of the hand and arm are unrestricted during both stimulation and testing. The data show that if the aftereffect is to be maximised stimulation should be restricted to a single set of joint receptors.

摘要:
Changes in ambient light have been reported to affect taste intensity perception. In an experiment designed to clarify the nature of this effect 48 Ss each tasted 27 pairs of citric acid samples, judging the intensity of the second sample relative to the first. Four sets of acid stimuli varying in discriminability were used, and three conditions of ambient illumination change. Half the Ss received systematic reinforcement of their responses, the others did not. Results suggest that Ss use hetero‐modal cues as an alternative response basis when the primary discrimination task is relatively difficul
