摘要:
AbstractTravel and tourism is one of Europe's fastest growing industries. While in many instances its economic benefits are of paramount importance, notably in relation to the contribution tourism can make to otherwise economically disadvantaged areas, it also has significant negative impacts. This paper examines the relations between travel and tourism development and the environment and proposes ways in which the industry can protect the environment upon which its future depends.

摘要:
AbstractOver the last few years the environmental policy programmes which have been formulated in the Member States of the European Union (EU) have increasingly addressed the environmental relevance of products. Whilst prohibitions and restrictions were often used instruments in the past, products are now becoming subject to eco‐taxes and charges, they are labelled and their life‐cycle is assessed ‐ all for the sake of an improvement of their environmental performance. However, the development of product‐related environmental policy measures varies greatly within the EU. This article outlines the findings of a study undertaken with the financial support of the EU in which different product policies are inventorised and c

摘要:
AbstractPoliticians and policy analysts are equally guilty of focusing more of their attention on the making of policy rather than the manner and ultimate extent to which it is actually implemented. This much is certainly true of the many international agreements which now form part of a wider body of international (including European Union) environmental law. This article attempts to redress this imbalance by comparing and contrasting the more recent attempts made by three North European states to implement the terms of the Convention on climate change within their own domestic territories. To date, the pathways through which each state has chosen to implement the Convention have been shaped both by more ‘stable’ cultural, economic and historical factors, as well as more ‘sporadic’ reactions to unforseen contingencies. On a broader plane, the three case studies give examples of the kinds of interesting and highly disparate dilemmas which now increasingly confront national governments as they seek to reconcile their international environmental obligations with domestic political impe

摘要:
AbstractIndustrial environmental management initiatives hold significant economic potential. In Hungary, this is the case for companies that wish to improve their efficiency and for the country as a whole as it seeks access to EU and OECD markets. This paper examines the environmental attitudes and actions of Hungarian managers. It finds that managerial attitudes in Hungary compare favourably to those of their Western counterparts and that while resources may be scarce awareness is not a barrier to change.
