摘要:
Nine undergraduate nursing students who have taken part in summer research programs at the University of Arizona, Tucson, have increased their skills in observation and in interpretation of data. During a two-month period, the nursing students, working beside graduate sutdents and faculty members, conducted their own research projects in areas of anthropology, physiology, or sociology.

摘要:
The brugeoning of health services in treating the whole man calls for greater cooperation among allied health workers. A study to ascertain to what extent nurses and social workers learn of each other's discipline at the college level showed that in 75 per cent of their schools nurses learn about social work directly from professors of social work or lecturers, while in only 32 per cent of the schools of social work are there professional nurses as faculty members or lecturers.

摘要:
Four cardiotomy patients were observed in the intensive care unit of Firmin Desloge Hospital of Saint Louis University during three eight-hour periods following surgery in a study of the amount of uninterrupted time for rest and sleep during the first, second, and third postoperative days. The greatest number of interactions took place the first day—up to 56 in an eight-hour interval. During the three days, each patient was interrupted at least once every hour; the longest uninterrupted time interval was 50 minutes. In addition to interruptions, environmental conditions such as bright lights, telephone buzzers and other noise, and constant activity in the intensive care unit were found not to be conducive to rest and deep slee—necessary for optimal patient recovery. Suggestions of how nurses might help patients with their sleep needs are made.
