摘要:
The paper contains nothing original. It does, however, attempt to show the development of X-radiography in industry and engineering from the time of Röntgen's discovery in 1895.The paper is divided into three sections. In the first, developments up to the beginning of the present war have been recorded in broad outline, with regard both to uses and to equipment. In the second, the war-time development of engineering and industrial radiography, particularly with regard to Service requirements and inspection, has been dealt with. Both the applicability and the limitations of radiography in the engineering sphere have been remarked upon. The third section is devoted to an attempt to forecast radiographic developments in future with regard to modifications in engineering inspection and development. The author has also attempted to foreshadow the trend of development in X-ray apparatus and equipment.No attempt has been made in the paper to describe the applications of X-ray crystal analysis in industry, and no cognizance has been taken of the enormous progress made by radiology in the medical and surgical fields.
