AbstractWhen an auxiliary electric heater (AEH) is incorporated in a thermosyphon solar water system, the system performance becomes more complex and it is more difficult to simulate and analyse its operational characteristics. Using a ‘fixed‐node, equally‐convecting‐mixing model’ that they have developed, the authors perform detailed simulations and analysis of the effects of the location of the auxiliary electric heater (LAEH) in the storage tank on the performance of the thermosyphon solar water system with an auxiliary electric heater (TSAEH), and discover for the first time some new laws governing the system operation. 摘要:
AbstractThe influence of lime and clay on the combustion efficiency of honeycomb briquettes was studied. The experimental results showed that the combustion efficiency of the briquettes varied with the types and content of inorganic additives. When the content of inorganic additives was lower than 14%, the combustion efficiency of the briquettes was higher (>98.8%), and the influence of clay on the combustion efficiency of the briquettes was slightly less than that of lime. When the content of inorganic additives was more than 14%, the combustion efficiency of the briquettes with clay was reduced rapidly as the clay content grew and was much less than that with lime.

AbstractAn exact analysis of the MHD flow of a rarefied gas in a rotating flat‐plate channel is presented. The channel is assumed to rotate about an axis perpendicular to the plane of the plates, which are assumed to be finitely electrically conducting. Velocity profiles, magnetic field lines, and the function affecting the temperature field are shown on graphs. The numerical values of the axial and transverse skin friction, axial and transverse components of the mass flux, and the function affecting the rate of heat transfer are entered in Tables. AbstractA solar thermophotovoltaic converter using PbS photovoltaic cells is proposed. The converter is in the form of a flat plate consisting of a heat mirror, a black absorber, a cell filter and PbS photovoltaic cells. Theoretical analysis shows that, ideally, the efficiency of such a system is about 30%.

AbstractThe transient plane source (TPS) technique was employed to measure experimentally the thermal conductivity of three selected steel samples. Measured values of thermal conductivities are critically analysed, taking into account factors such as the composition and the nature of the alloying elements. An effort is made to determine the temperature dependence of thermal conductivity of these samples from room temperature to 300°C. Results of the present measurements are also discussed in the light of the values of thermal conductivity on equivalent steels measured by other workers

AbstractA thermal analysis of a passive regenerative solar still is presented for different configurations. Based on an energy balance for each component of the system, an analytical expression for thermal efficiency has been derived in terms of the design parameters. The theoretical results have been validated for special cases of the system. There is reasonable agreement between theoretical and experimental observations.

摘要:
AbstractThe load and energy requirements in residential buildings vary according to a number of factors. One of these factors is the geographical location in which the building is situated. Using a detached single‐family house, the DOE2.1C load and energy analysis program was used to investigate the effect of the geographical location on the load and energy requirements. Four different cities, namely Dhahran, Riyadh, Jeddah and Khamis‐Mushayt, representing four different climatic locations, are considered in this study. The analysis shows that the building parameters having the greatest impact on load are conduction through walls and roof, glazing area and infiltration level. The capacity requirements of the equipment and the total energy requirement for year‐round air conditioning were calculated for a house in each city. A comparison shows that the city of Khamis‐Mushayt has the lowest energy consumption and Jeddah has the highest energy consumption. The equivalent uniform annual cost (EUAC) method was also used to compare the economic performances of typical houses in the four cities. The comparison shows that the district of Khamis‐Mushayt has the lowest EUAC, but the difference between the other cities is not significant.
