AbstractA critical review of the literature is used to suggest best estimates of the energy savings due to recycling one tonne of a number of materials. the use of these estimates is demonstrated by a number of illustrative applications. Substantial energy savings may be made by recycling most metals or paper. the savings from reclaiming glass cullet are marginal, although there is considerable potential for energy conservation through the substitution of returnable for non‐returnable bottles. the recycling of materials already saves some 5 per cent of the U.K. total energy requirement, and this contribution could potentially be doubled. the recovery of fuel products and/or materials from solid waste is also shown to be an attractive and efficient energy sourc

AbstractThe second law of thermodynamics provides an analytic framework for the assessment of the potential displacement of fossil fuels by solar energy. the most promising areas are those which have entropy levels corresponding to the entropy level of the solar resource as converted to heat in various types of solar collectors. 摘要:
AbstractData on actual wind energy availability in Ireland are sparse. This is because (a) relatively little data on wind speeds have been collected in Ireland at sites of interest for wind exploitation, and (b) such data need in any case to be integrated with the characteristics of actual windmills which respond more efficiently to certain wind speed than to others.This paper describes a methodology for performing such an integration, and offers tables of specific output for windmills of different characteristics located at different sites in Ireland. the variations in this specific output are discussed.

摘要:
AbstractThis paper presents an investigation of the periodic heat transfer through a double hollow concrete block, one face of which is exposed to solar radiation and atmospheric air while the other is in contact with room air at constant temperature. It is seen that maximum load levelling occurs when the thickness of the two air gaps is the same (5 cm); for typical parameters a time difference of 12 h between maximum/minimum of the thermal flux and solair temperature is also obtained.

摘要:
AbstractThis paper describes energy use on an aluminium extrusion plant. Possibilities for reducing the energy consumption are investigated. Savings in space heating (80 per cent), in motive power (17 per cent), lighting (45 per cent), and process heat (25 per cent) are considered to be achievable. This amounts to a reduction in the total of energy use by 45 per cent.

摘要:
AbstractIn the present study, selective black paint coatings have been prepared by coating reflective metal particles with a layer of selective black material. the coated particles were mixed in a binder and applied easily as a thin layer onto aluminium or galvanized iron (G.I.) sheet. Three selective black materials, namely CuO, CuS and PbS + CuS have been deposited on zinc metal powder, the solar absorptance of the coatings is ±0.95 and the emittance is ±0.4. the thickness of the coatings was about 20 to 30 μm. the emissivity decreases as the thickness increases, while the solar absorptivity does not change appreciably. the improvement in the collector efficiency, which is the ratio of the temperature increase above the temperature of the standard panel to the temperature increase of the standard panel above the ambient temperature, is estimated to be around 11 per cent. the process is potentially a low cost one for large scale application in solar photothermal conversi

摘要:
AbstractThis paper presents an analysis of the performance of an inexpensive constant flow solar collector/storage system, which has been validated by experiments. the system consists of a network of pipes buried in the ground, the top surface of the ground being blackened by black board paint spray and suitably glazed. the heat can be extracted by flow of fluid in the pipes at a constant flow rate. It is seen that for a 7 cm depth of the plane of heat retrieval and 81/min flow rate of water, the collection efficiency of the system is 20.0 per cent. the efficiency increases with flow rate and decreases with the depth of the plane of heat retrieval.
