摘要:
AbstractThe effect of different earth surface treatments for lowering the subsurface earth temperature has been experimentally investigated. The surface treatments studied include lime covered surface, stone covered surface and tree bark covered surface. The effects of shading and wetting the above treated surfaces on the subsoil temperature have also been investigated. It is found that wetting of the bare surface is most effective for reducing the average value of the subsoil temperature and that the wetted tree bark covered surface is equally effective in reducing the diurnal swings of the earth temperature.The measured subsoil temperature and the measured climatic data (ambient temperature, wet bulb temperature and global radiation) are used to estimate the surface heat transfer coefficienthoand the thermophysical properties of the earth (K, α1and ρC

摘要:
AbstractThe paper reports on a feasibility study of a solar‐powered heating/cooling system for a swimming pool/space combination in a tropical environment. The system employs an absorption chiller and a cooling tower to meet the locker‐room load. The heating is accomplished by employing hot water generated by heat exchange with the solar collector working fluid. Two thermal storage tanks are employed for the collector and domestic use. The absorption chiller utilizes hot water to regenerate the LiBr solution. The proposed system will enable the swimming season to be extended from 16 weeks to 52 weeks. The economic analysis is performed based on the life‐cycle‐cost method. The effects of discount rate, fuel prices, and the fuel inflation rate are discussed. The analysis shows, with the present level of fuel prices, that the solarassisted system is not economical enough over a life cycle of 10 years. AbstractThe thermal decay of an initially hot isothermal water body contained in a tank was studied. Analytical solutions (including a group‐theoretic solution) were obtained for the one‐dimensional heat conduction equation with heat loss from the sides of the tank. The convective heat transfer coefficient was assumed not to be constant over the surface of the tank but to vary with space and time. A very good agreement was obtained between the group‐theoretic solution and a numerical solution using the Crank‐Nicholson finite difference scheme. 摘要:
AbstractAn experimental investigation was made to study the effect of vertical probe height on heat transfer at the wall in circulating fluidized beds. Experiments were conducted in a 100 mm internal diameter, 5.15 m tall circulating fluidized bed. Four probes having 85, 127.5, 170 and 255 mm heights were tested. Heat transfer measurements covered a range of superficial velocity from 7.2 to 12.5 m/s and a range of suspension density from 25 to 68 kg/m3. The results were compared with those of other investigators. An empirical correlation incorporating the dimensionless probe height and the particle Nusselt number and Reynolds number has been suggested.

摘要:
AbstractThe dependence of the top heat loss factor of flat plate solar collectors with single and double glazing on the basic parameters was studied. An improved technique for calculation of the top heat loss factor of flat plate collectors with single glazing has recently been proposed by the authors. The present work, covering the flat plate collectors with single as well as double glazing, carefully examines the impact of the glass cover temperature(s) estimated by simple empirical relation(s) on the individual heat transfer coefficients and hence on the top heat loss factor. An analysis of the capability of the new method to accurately compute the top heat loss factor over an extensive number of combinations of the basic parameters has been carried out.
