摘要:
AbstractThe study describes a special construction of a pulsating self‐compressing combustion system, which gives nearly constant in‐ and outflows of gas, and its use in connection with gas turbine power stations. The main idea of the self‐compressing combustion chamber is that the pressure at the outflow after combustion is higher than that at the inflow to the combustion chamber. The maximum thermodynamically possible pressure rise in the combustion chamber is solved and calculated for different temperature ratios and combustion processes. The thermodynamic advantage of pulse combustion for gas turbine systems is shown as a function of the self‐compression pressur

摘要:
AbstractA cold physical model to a scale of 1:33 of a solid waste incinerator was designed and constructed of transparent material. Experimentation aimed at optimizing gas flow patterns in the furnace for low‐pollutant combustion. Flames were simulated by acid‐base neutralization. Secondary air flow distribution and direction were identified as the controlling parameters of the flow pattern. The best possible air distribution for a desired flame shape and gas mixing was determined. Streamline plots for verification of the mathematical models were obtai

摘要:
AbstractThe paper critically evaluates the design and performance of a commercial hot water system. These systems are installed in IIT Delhi hostels mainly for cooking and washing utensils. In some of these systems, heat exchangers are also used. In specific terms, one can regard the thermal efficiency and the maximum hot water temperature as indicators of the performance of the system. Hence different parameters of the heat exchanger and the number of collector panels directly affect the performance of the system. In the paper, an energy balance for different components of the system under steady state conditions is primarily investigated. It is found that excellent agreement exists between experimental and theoretical results for the proposed design parameters.

摘要:
AbstractAn analytical method for the direct coupling between a photovoltaic (PV) generator and a monoblock DC series motor driven centrifugal pump has been developed as a function of the no‐flow motor‐pump speedw0and its working speedw.w0is a function of the motor terminal voltage, andwis determined by the value ofw0and the working water head of the pump. The different parameters of a monoblock DC series motor and a centrifugal pump have been derived as variables ofw0andw.The optimum matching conditions at the maximum hydraulic efficiency are discussed. The mathematical approach to this study has been verified by experimental results from two different pump systems. The constants of a given motor‐pump system are constrained by the requirements and design factors. Without alteration of these constants, better matching can be achieved only by changing the motor constantM0. Some reported results also compare well with those of this

摘要:
AbstractThe thermal performance of a room coupled to an evaporatively cooled water storage tank below its floor has been evaluated in terms of the discomfort index for the hot‐dry climate of Jodhpur. For a given depth of the storage tank, the effect on the room air temperature of the flow rate with which water is cooled evaporatively has been analysed. It is seen that the storage coupling reduces the mean room temperature but does not affect the swing in the room temperatur

摘要:
AbstractAn experimental facility is described for the measurement of evaporation and condensation heat transfer coefficients in refrigerant‐oil mixtures flowing in a horizontal tube. The paper reports measurements of heat transfer coefficients in convective condensation of R22, both oil‐free and with three concentrations of Shell Clavus 32 oil. A 3/8 in outer diameter copper tube (8.05 mm inner diameter), 1.8 m long, was used at condensation temperatures of 40 and 50°C. Heat flux and mixture mass velocity were kept constant at 2500 W/m2and 155 kg/m2s, respectively, and measured coefficients were in the range 1350–2850 W/m2K. Results showed that the heat transfer coefficient is reduced nonlinearly by the presence of oil, the reduction reaching 25% when the oil concentration is 5% by mass, and 28% at an oil concentration of 10%.An assessment showed that the effect of this reduction in the condensation heat transfer coefficient on the predicted performance of a heat pump is small.A new correlation is presented for the heat transfer coefficient in convective condensation of refrigerant—oil mixtures, which predicts the results of the present study to within approximately ± 18%. The correlation is compared with those given by Tichyet al
