摘要:
AbstractThis research questions the appropriateness of the market model in describing the stochastic process generating security returns. A new descriptive model which considers the adaptive behaviour of economic agents and their partial adjustment to new information is proposed. Empirical results indicate that the proposed model is superior to the conventional market model in describing the returns generating process. These findings raise questions about previous studies concerning the information content of specific events or concerning the market efficiency.

摘要:
AbstractThe characteristics of a gas–solid fluidized bed are influenced by complicated and stochastic phenomena, e.g. jetting and the bubbling of the fluidizing medium and the motion of the fluidized particles. In this study pressure fluctuations due to the bubble movement were measured by means of a pressure probe over a range of time. The resultant time series have been analysed by determining their autocorrelation function and power spectrum with emphasis on the examination of the effect of the superficial velocity of the fluidizing gas. A stochastic model of bubble motion in a fluidized bed has been developed. This model visualizes the bubble motion in a fluidized bed to consist of the random movement, generating irregular signals, and the linear movement, generating wave‐like signals. A theoretical autocorrelation function and a power spectral density function have been derived based on the mo

摘要:
AbstractThe reinstallation of different plant‐species and their evolution during a ten‐year period in a heathland after a fire accident has been studied by using the algorithm of heirarchical classification based on correlation (ABC) introduced by Tallur.1Classification under contiguity restraint of the set of observation points (subintervals of an experimental observation line) enables one to determine the ‘patches’ having uniform vegetation structure. Lerman's ‘local’ and ‘global’ statistics are used to condense the classification tree to its significant nodes and to choose the most significant partition.x2statistics are proposed to test whether a given patch has a ‘significant’ vegetation structure and if the association between a patch and a plant species is significant. Evolution of the horizontal structure of vegetation is studied by comparing the sets of patches obtained at successive observation dates and the correspondi

摘要:
AbstractThis paper deals with a system containingn m‐variable elements measured atppoints of time. The data matrices for each point of time are represented by the biplot technique. Each biplot provides a map of the system which can be used to determine visually the relations between the elements and variables. The biplots are then compared by superimposing them to obtain an ‘aggregate’ graph. Differences between the biplots indicate departure from stability of the system. An example drawn from the Israeli banking system is pro

摘要:
AbstractThe correlations between the queue lengths at nodes in simple Jackson networks are investigated by the randomization numerical method. Although at a fixed point in time these queue lengths are well known to be independent when we compare values at slightly different time points substantial correlation patterns show up. Several classes of systems turn out to have either identical or closely related correlation patterns.
