摘要:
AbstractThe importance of the flow and fracture of bitumens was investigated, and the conditions arising during the application of a dense asphalt mix and the performance in service of various asphalt surfacings were considered. Methods of measuring these properties are described.With the aid of results obtained by methods devised for the direct measurement of bitumen properties at short and long times of loading, suitable for all kinds of binders, or using results deduced by means of nomographs, it should be possible to draft bitumen specifications covering their mechanical properties in engineering terms, which will be significant from the point of view of road performance over the whole range of conditions likely to be experienced in practice.

AbstractSilver rubidium iodide (RbAg4I5) is a unique solid electrolyte because of its extremely high conductivity which has an almost negligible electronic contribution. This characteristic makes RbAg4I5a very promising electrolyte for the development of high‐power solid‐state batteries. AbstractThe bubble‐point pressures in the NH3‐CO2system, at complete chemical equilibrium, have been measured in the range of 130–185°c corresponding to pressures of 30–175 atm. The NH3‐CO2system exhibits a sharp pressure minimum; in the area of high NH3concentration, critical behaviour and retrograde condensation have been found. The results, as part of the NH3‐H2O‐CO2system, are discussed from the standpoint of chemical phase theory and are shown to be consistent with the NH3‐H2O and CO2‐H2O systems. AbstractThe thermal decomposition of CaHPO4and CaHPO4.2H2O was studied by thermogravimetric analysis, X‐ray powder diffraction, and infra‐red spectroscopy. AbstractThe thermal decomposition of sodium dithionite (Na2S2O4) in the solid state was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and the exothermic heat of decomposition was determined. The effect of isothermal pretreatment at various selected temperatures on the subsequently determined decomposition temperature was studied, together with the effect of sample weight on the decomposition temperature and degree of exothermicity.

AbstractThe method of reaction times has been used to investigate the kinetics and mechanism of the iron‐catalysed reaction between permanganate and oxalic acid.The rate‐controlling step is the decomposition of the dioxalatoiron(III) ion.The reaction rate is independent of the initial permanganate concentration below 0.0015 N but is proportional to the initial concentration above 0.002 N.
