摘要:
A syndrome of dental abnormalities in sheep is described. The features of the syndrome include excessive wear of deciduous incisor teeth, maleruption of permanent incisors associated with an osteopathy of mandibular bone, and the frequent formation of dentigerous cysts. Periodontitis of incisor teeth was present in some cases, and excessive incisor wear and premature tooth-loss were recorded in most sheep over 3 years old.

摘要:
Nocardiaspecies that are common in the soil environment can cause disease in man and animals. These infections are usually considered rare, and there have been only four cases of animal disease previously reported in the New Zealand literature. A limited survey, with the co-operation of staff from animal health laboratories, revealed a further 34 cases ofNocardiainfection between 1976–78, and this figure is likely to be conservative. Twenty-six cases were mastitic infections and one was an isolate from a bovine placenta; the majority of infected animals were reported from the South Auckland and Waikato regions. The remaining cases were fatal infections of cats, dogs and a seal. Diagnostic tests on the causative organisms from 27 cases for which cultures were available all proved to beN. asteroidesstrains. Improved epidemiological data may help relate occurrence of disease in animals to the distribution ofNocardiain nature, but this is dependent on recognition of the organism by the specialists involved in the field and laboratory. Without epidemiological data, it will not be possible to evaluate the effects on animals of increasing the multiplication ofNocardia, for example by adding sewage sludge to soil.

摘要:
A survey carried out at a meat export works in the southern part of the North Island indicated that 29% of lambs killed during the early part of the 1978/79 season had lesions de- scribed as subcutaneous haemorrhagic speckling. In 2.6% of lambs, the lesions were sufficiently severe to warrant downgrading.

摘要:
Three groups of four heifers were vaccinated twice, 11 weeks apart. One group received a commercialpomonavaccine with aluminium hydroxide adjuvant, the second a similar experimental vaccine, and the third a Freund's compete adjuvant (FCA) vaccine. After 47 weeks, the heifers were challenged with at least 65 × 108virulent serovarpomonaorganisms.

摘要:
Eight pedunculated jejunal polyps 4–13mm in diameter were found in a 3 to 5-month-old lamb during routine meat inspection at an export slaughterhouse in Canterbury. Histological examination revealed papilliform growths consisting of hyperplastic villi with numerous developmental stages of coccidia-like organisms in the epithelial cells of the polyps' mucosa. It is suggested that this specimen represents an uncommon manifestation of chronic ovine coccidiosis.
