摘要:
The ergot derivative Hydergine was compared with apomorphine as an injectable emetic for dogs. A simple crossover study using 19 mixed-age animals of different breeds and sexes indicated that apomorphine was more consistent in effect and had a shorter latent period. It was concluded that in circumstances demanding emesis in the dog, apomorphine remains the drug of first choice, but should it become unavailable, Hydergine would be a possible alternative.

摘要:
Prophylactic (summer) and/or therapeutic (autumn) administrations of an intra-ruminal sustained-release bolus (MSRB) containing morantel tartrate were compared for the control of gastro-intestinal nematodes in grazing dairy calves over an 8-month period (December to August). The MSRB was designed to release morantel tartrate at 150 mg/day for 90 days.

摘要:
A small scale abattoir survey was conducted to determine if atrophic rhinitis (AR) is present in pigs in New Zealand. Transverse sections of snouts at a level between the first and second upper premolars were examined from 428 slaughter pigs 20–30 weeks old. Three hundred and ninety three of these animals were derived from 9 herds, whilst the herd(s) of origin of the remainder was unknown.

Sir, — Andrews’(2)checklist of helminth parasites of wild ruminants in New Zealand recorded the presence of 10 species of gastrointestinal nematodes in chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra rupicapraL.) from “Central South Island”. In October 1978 we examined 28 freshly-shot chamois cadavers from the Harper-Avoca watershed in the headwaters of the Rakaia River. Six of the nematode species reported by Andrews were found again; viz.Ostertagia ostertagi, O. circumcincta, O. trifurcata, Nematodirus filicollis, Oesophagostomum venulosumandTrichuris ovis. The 4 species found by Andrews that were not recovered by us from the animals we examined were:Trichostrongylus axei, T. vitrinus, Spiculotragia spiculopteraandS. asymmetrica. On the other hand we found 4 helminths not encountered by Andrews: 3 nematodes:Nematodirus spathiger(Railliet, 1896),N. abnormalis(May, 1920), andChabertia ovina(Fabricius, 1794), and 7 specimens of the cestodeMoniezia expansa(Rud., 1805).Nematodirus spathigerwas the most commonly encounteredNematodirusspecies, but generally the numbers of all 3 species encountered were low as might be expected in a sample of adult and almost year-old animals. It is probable that most of the adults had acquired some measure of immunity(3), and the most susceptible group, the kids, would not be born until late November. Because peptic digestion was not used to recover juveniles from the intestinal submucosa, only small numbers of adults were obtained.
