Groups of lambs were either slaughtered at weekly intervals between November and June, or regularly sampled over this period. The number of isolations ofPasteurella haemolyticaandMycoplasmasp. from the lungs increased during the later part of two seasons, as did the incidence of lesions typical of enzootic pneumonia.P. haemolyticawas frequently isolated after February from nasal swabs in spite of the presence of serum antibody titres against this organism. Serum antibody titre to two adenoviruses were found to fall to a low level, one in January, the other in May, and then to rise again. Virus isolations were made at the time the homologous antibody titres were lowest.

Eleven enteroviruses representing four serotypes were isolated in a porcine kidney cell-line from swabs collected from a litter of apparently healthy piglets in New Zealand. One serotype produced type 2 cytopathic effect and was neutralized by type 8 porcine enterovirus antiserum. Of the remaining three serotypes which produced type 1 cytopathic effect, one was neutralized by type 1 antiserum and two were not neutralized at all by antisera types 1 to 8. Cross neutralization tests were not carried out. Nervous disease or reproductive disorders have not yet been associated with these viruses in New Zealand.

An intensive study of 6 calves over a period of 14 months using viral isolation and serum neutralization techniques indicated that they were infected with a variety of enteroviruses and para-influenza 3 virus. Maternal antibody to infectious bovine rhinotracheitis and bovine viral diarrhoea viruses was present at one month. Active infection with these two viruses was not demonstrated during the course of the study.

IgG and IgM in serum from 164 aborted and 59 abattoir foetuses were measured by radial immuno-diffusion. Ig was detected in 133 (81.1%) aborted and 6 (10.2%) abattoir foetuses. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.01).

160 Romney ewes drenched with thiabendazole at 11 to 17 times the recommended dose resulted in 35 deaths. No deaths occurred in an equal number of undrenched ewes or in an equal number of ewes drenched with the recommended dose. Clinical signs, necropsy, histopathology and biochemical findings are reported. Deaths were associated with hypokalaemia, hypoproteinaemia and uremia, and were considered to have been the result of overdosage with thiabendazole.
