摘要:
Serum pepsinogen levels andOstertagia ostertugipopulations in clinically normal grass-fed bullocks were investigated in three groups of 10 prime cattle aged between 2.5 and 2.75 years slaughtered in late summer (February), early autumn (March) and late autumn (May) respectively. Apart from occasional foci of mucosal hyperplasia abomasa were grossly normal. Serum pepsinogen levels ranged between 0.2 and 2.5 i.u./l with group means of 1.4,l.S and 1.3 i.u./l.O. ostertagicounts ranged between 0 and5,194 with group means of 734,630 and 701 worms. The composition of the worm populations varied with a higher proportion of adults recovered in February and very few worms from most cattle in March, suggesting the termination of a parasite generation. An increase in numbers of early fourth-stage larvae in May indicated exposure to a new generation. These changes were not reflected in the pepsinogen levels.

摘要:
Cows with consistently high somatic cell counts (SCC) and bacterial infection, but no clinical signs of mastitis, were identified early in lactation. Some of these quarters were treated with Cloxacillin, while other similar quarters were left untreated. Prior to treatment, 74% of infected quarters had SCC higher than 300,000 cells/ml while 85% of uninfected quarters has SCC lower than 300,000 cells/ml.

摘要:
A flock of New Zealand Romney lambs on a property in Hawkes Bay was examined from August 1978 to June 1979. In November, the lambs in the flock were allocated to groups as follows: 600 lambs from which groups were selected for slaughter by commercial criteria each month (selected groups); 700 lambs which were subdivided into 8 groups (random groups), one of which was sent for slaughter each month; and 25 lambs to monitor serological responses to viral infections (surveillance group). At slaughter, lesions in the anterior lobes of the lungs were classified into small, large or mottled lesions while those in the posterior regions of the diaphragmatic lobes comprised a separate group. The prevalence of the pneumonic and pleural lesions was recorded in all groups of lambs. Pneumonic lesions in lambs from the random groups were further classified after microscopic examination. The prevalence of infections with parainfluenza virus type 3, adenoviruses,Mycoplasma spp., andPasteurella haemolyticawas also recorded in the random groups. Average carcase weights of all groups of lambs were also recorded.

摘要:
Analysis of liver from clinically normal animals showed a mean α-tocopherol level of 20 mg/kg for cattle and 6 mg/kg for sheep. The corresponding normal values (mean ±2 S.D.) were 9 to 44 mg/kg and 1.8 to 20 mg/kg. The usefulness and assessment of tocopherol analyses on liver and serum samples are discussed in the light of these normal values and routine diagnostic submissions.
