摘要:
The toxicity of serpentine phosphate and superphosphate for non-pregnant dry ewes, pregnant ewes and lactating ewes was investigated by oral dosing. An attempt was made to reproduce a natural episode of poisoning by exposing pregnant and lactating ewes to topdressed pasture.

摘要:
Light microscope observations on oat cells in the ovine pneumonia-pleurisy complex are presented. This study is based on the experimental production of the disease by viruses andPasteurella haemolytica. Oat cells appeared only in necrotic lesions associated with large numbers ofP. haemolyticain thi pneumonic lung. It is suggested that oat cells originate from blood monocytes, which transform into the oat shape when developing in the necrotic, hypoxic environment created byP. haemolytica. They were not, however, observed to be phagocytic. Oat cells are characteristic of pneumonic pasteurellosis but are not pathognomonic because they can also be found in extrapulmonary locations and in other pathological conditions of the lungs.

摘要:
Approximately 100 farmed male and female red deer aged three months and over were blood-sampled and haematological parameters were measured. The deer were sampled by jugular venepuncture without tranquillization. Mean values were haemoglobin (16.0g/dl), packed cell volume (44.6%), mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (35.8g/dl), total plasma protein (66.0g/l). fibrinogen (4.8g/l) and white blood-cell numbers (5.80 x 109/l). Differential white blood-cell counts were neutrophils (53.9%), eosinophils (4.8%), basophils (3.0%), lymphocytes (37.2%) and monocytes (1.1%). There were no significant differences in any parameter measured between sexes or between age groups three to eight months, nine to eighteen months, or older.

摘要:
A commercialhardjo-pomonavaccine which has previously been shown to be effective againsthardjoinfection was tested againstpomona. Following challenge all 11 six-month-old non-vaccinated calves seroconverted andpomonawas isolated from blood or urine on at least one occasion from nine of them.Pomonawas isolated once only, on the third day after challenge, from the blood of one of 11 vaccinated calves.

摘要:
A case of granulomatous enteritis in a three-year-old thoroughbred horse is described. Onset of clinical signs succeeded pyrexia of unknown aetiology. The horse was emaciated, depressed and inappetent but diarrhoea was not a feature of the condition. There was hypoproteinaemia, anaemia, leucopaenia and abnormal small-intestinal carbohydrate absorption. Rectal biopsy revealed granulomatous changes in the rectal mucosa. As a result of these findings, euthanasia was performed and an autopsy was carried out. Histopathology showed marked villous atrophy in the small intestine with a diffuse mononuclear cellular infiltration htvolvbrg mainly the submucosa and lamina propria. There were occasional granulomatous foci. The mononuclear cells consisted mainly of lymphocytes and histiocytes. No aetiological agent was isolated.
