摘要:
AbstractThe need for an economical technique for evaluating training programs in applied settings led to the development of an analogue assessment technique. The Interview Situation Questionnaire (ISQ) required written responses to ten counseling vignettes. The responses were scored for Affective. Understanding, and Exploratory content using an adaptation of Kagan's (1967) Counselor Verbal Response Scale. In a validation study the ISQ significantly differentiated between counselors and natural scientists. In a comparison between didactically trained students and student volunteers in an experiential/didactic training program, the ISQ was sensitive to initial differences between the groups and to changes in both groups over the training period. The experiential/didactic group showed significantly greater improvement on the Affective dimension. These data are consistent with previous findings and, with corrections for possible ceiling effects, support the usefulness of a brief analogue task as a screening and evaluation tool.

摘要:
AbstractA comparison of 1091 black persons, 192 Hispanic persons, 186 Asian persons, and a random sample of 1785 white persons who entered Navy Hospital Corpsman and Dental Technician training revealed significant between‐group differences on a number of aptitude, background, and personality measures. When participants in this research were divided into those individuals who had been fully qualified for paramedical training (high aptitude), those who had been only marginally qualified for training (medimum aptitude), and those who had been accepted for training despite the fact that they had not been qualified (low aptitude), between‐group comparisons revealed that minority group members at the low and medium aptitude levels tended to perform better, both in training and on the job, than did the whites at comparable aptitude levels. The performance of individuals with high aptitude test scores was not related to minority group status. These findings suggest that consideration should be given to minority group membership in screening candidates for these paramedical jobs and that affirmative action programs, at least when they are evaluated in terms of training performance and job turnover, can produce significant benefits for the individuals concerned and for the organizat

摘要:
AbstractThis study demonstrates that when therapists increase their percentage of negative statements made to clients in group therapy sessions the percentage of client‐client interactions compared with therapist‐client interactions increases. When the therapists increase their percentage of negative client feedback by delivering more lower intensity negative messages, the clients are as satisfied with the group experience and trust significantly more fellow group members than when the therapists give primarily positive feedback. However, when the therapists increase their percentage of negative client feedback by using higher intensity negative messages, while the clients still interact with one another more frequently, they are less satisfied with the group experience and trust fewer fellow clie

摘要:
AbstractThe present study investigated attitudes toward rape in a group of physicians and a group of volunteer rape‐crisis counselors. A series of 25 statements derived from the literature on rape was administered to a group of physicians and to a group of rapecrisis counselors. The 25 statements were factor analyzed based on responses from an independent sample. Two main factors emerged: one represented perceived causality of the rape incident and the other represented perceived consequences of the rape incident. Comparison of the physicians and volunteers on items loading on the two factors indicated that there was a slight tendency for the volunteers to see rape as having more serious consequences than did physician

摘要:
AbstractStepwise multiple regression was used to determine extent of association between drug use and 8 social dysfunctionality indices for a heterogeneous population of 488 drug users. Data presented indicate a moderate relationship between drug use and social dysfunctionality indices, the strongest association being with an “arrest” variable. An innovative approach to the gathering of drug use information, based on the ethnographic refinements of anthropology, was also described and suggestions given for facilitating community drug use resea

摘要:
AbstractThis study examined the differences in the attitudes of black and white students towards Soul City, a new town currently under construction in Warren County, North Carolina. 115 white students and 45 black students attending a predominantly white university and 122 black students attending a predominantly black university responded to a survey instrument developed to measure attitudes towards the new town. Scores on the instrument were factor analyzed and while no significant differences were found between the two black student groups, blacks and whites, over all, differed on three of the four factorial dimensions identified: Social Idealism, Social Trust, and Human Welfare. These findings are discussed in terms of the larger community psychology significance of Soul City.
