摘要:
AbstractA model of an interpersonal orientation to consultation was proposed in an effort to conceptualize the initial response of Black consultess to the use of consultation. The model describes five stages in the consultee's approach to the entry phase of consultation, along with five corresponding dimensions of behavior evoked by the consultant. The author suggests that Blacks, due to a combination of historical circumstances and cultural and social patterns and values, initially focus more on the interpersonal aspects of the consultation relationship than on the instrumental aspects. Seven “critical incidentrs” were described to illustrate the differences between Black and White consultees in an inner‐city school setting. The implications of the proposed model were discussed in terms of its applicability to other interpersonal transactions such as the therapeutic relationship, student‐administrator relationships and other professional relationships. Finally, the usefulness of the concept of an interpersonal orientation which is distinct from an instrumental orientation was demon

摘要:
AbstractReal and ideal family climate as perceived by Black lower middle SES adolescents from divorced and intact homes was investigated using the Moos Family Environment Scale. Results revealed that perceived family climate was unrelated to paternal marital status, but significantly related to perceived conflict within the home. High conflict was related to less cohesion, less intellectual‐cultural orientation, and less organization than low conflict. Independent of paternal marital status or degree of perceived conflict, adolescents as a group perceived their current family climate as less cohesive, more conflicted, less intellectually oriented and less organized than the ideal family climat

摘要:
AbstractLiterature on the psychological orientation of lower class Puerto Rican clients, their cultural value system, and their expectations for mental health services was reviewed. First, lower‐class Puerto Rican client's psychocultural orientation to therapy was seen as relatively dissimilar to that of the typical middle‐class American client. Second, differences in expectations of therapy between the Anglo therapist and lower‐class Puerto Rican client were described. Factors affecting the minimal use of mental health services by the lower‐class Puerto Rican community were also discussed. Recommendations were offered to aid in the amelioration of these problems for Puerto Rican cl

摘要:
AbstractSeveral major reviews of educational innovation projects have recently suggested that self‐perceived need for change is a critical factor in the successful implementation of an educational intervention. A field study of community change interventions in six rural school districts was conducted to determine whether the communities' self perceived need for change was in fact related to their degree of involvement in the change process. Such a relationship was confirmed. Of four indicators employed, a global, high inference measure of community need proved to be most effective in predicting level of community involvemen

摘要:
AbstractAn attempt was made to confirm the validity of citizen judgments of the utility of community interventions by establishing that such judgments are related to (a) process outcome measures, (b) community need for the intervention, and (c) the amount of change agent support provided. A stepwise‐multiple regression analysis of data collected in four rural school districts employing the same community change intervention found that citizen judgments were unrelated to these three factors. The inability to identify empirical correlates of citizen judgments of intervention utility casts doubt on the meaningfulness of such judgments as a criterion of intervention impac

摘要:
AbstractThe present study modified sharing behaviors by using naturalistic contingencies in groups of first and third grade children. During the initial baseline period, individual sharing behaviors among triads of youngsters were documented. When children evidencing low rates of sharing were subsequently placed in groups with high sharers, rates of sharing increased in the low sharers. When a high sharer was placed in groups of low sharers, increases in levels of sharing were also noted for the low sharers. Both findings suggest that prosocial behaviors might be modified by strategic placement of children in specific behavior settings.

摘要:
AbstractFrom a population of 302 volunteers in a volunteers in probation program, 85 females and 25 males returned questionnaires which measured a variety of personal and situational variables. Based upon their duration of service, volunteers were classified as Committed (having served the desired six months or more), Partially Committed (having served less than six months), and Uncommitted (having failed to complete the orientation session). A multivariateF‐test did not differentiate among the groups for the personal variables, but the multivariateFfor the situational variables was significant. Specifically, Committed volunteers were significantly more satisfied with the orientation process and with the volunteer agency staff support, felt they received more help from probation officers, and reported spending significantly less time with administrative tasks as compared with Partially Committed volunteers. These results indicate the relative importance of situational variables over personal variables, and the importance of support from the volunteer and probation agencie

摘要:
AbstractSpecification of the personal impact of participating as a paraprofessional in mental health programs has become increasingly important. The present study compared seven paraprofessional participants in a school‐based program with seven matched controls, pre and post participation. Paraprofessionals, relative to controls, became significantly: (a) warmer, (b) more positive in attitudes about mental health and children, and (c) less optimistic about social systems in general and more negative toward “elementary schools” in parti

摘要:
AbstractIn two samples of over 200 consecutive referrals each from a psychiatric hospital to community agencies, client characteristics were generally unrelated to referral success but three staff interventions were related to completing referrals. It was concluded that known interventions are stronger predictors of successful referrals than patient characteristics. Staff telephone contacts with ethnic minorities were more successful in effecting referrals than with majority patients.

摘要:
AbstractBudget cutbacks and cost accountability are currently key issues for community mental health centers. Consequently, maximizing the available resources is important to the staff and to the community. Clients who fail to attend the initial appointment represent a significant loss of staff time and resources. Many studies have looked at variables related to missed initial appointments. However, the current study looked at means of reducing missed initial appointments. Eighty‐eight subjects were assigned to one of four groups. Group A received a letter three days prior to initial appointment; Group B received a telephone call three days prior to initial appointment; Group C received a telephone call one day prior to initial appointment; Group D was a non‐intervention control. The results showed a significant reduction in the rate of missed initial appointments in the group receiving a telephone call one day prior to the initial appointment. This group had a 9% nonattendance rate. Groups receiving either a letter or telephone call three days prior to the initial appointment had a 32% nonattendance rate. The nonintervention control group had a 55% nonattendance rate. The effectiveness of these interventions in reducing the nonattendance rate and thereby enhancing the resources of CMHCs was discussed. Unexpected effects of the study upon the homeostasis of the CMHC were looked at as well as other areas of applicat
