摘要:
The identity and life history of a digenetic trematode commonly found as a metacercaria in the mysidTenagomysis chiltoniTattersall, 1923 and in the amphipodParacalliope fluviatilis(Thomson, 1879) are discussed. Naturally infected mysids and experimentally infected amphipods were fed to the common bully,Gobiomorphus cotidianusMcDowall, 1975. Adult worms were recovered after 4 weeks and were identical to pro-genetic metacercariae from mysids and amphipods. They closely resembledCoitocaecum parvumCrowcroft, 1945 from Tasmania, and worms identified by MacFarlane (1939) asCoitocaecum anaspidisHickman, 1934. They differed from the type specimens ofC. anaspidisin the position of the genital pore, shape of the cirrus-sac, extent of the vitelline follicles, and in their body size. Differences between worms from Canterbury and the type specimens ofC. parvumare considered to be insufficient to regard them as being separate species. The adult ofCoitocaecum parvumis redescribed. The mysidT. chiltoniis reported as a new host forCoitocaecum parvum.

Parapsyllus magellanicus largificussubsp. n. (Siphonaptera: Rhopalopsyllidae) is described from specimens found in nests of Salvin's mollymawk,Diomedea cauta salvini(Roths-child), on the Bounty Islands, New Zealand. This is the first record of a flea from this host.

摘要:
Changes in morphology during growth in small specimens ofOnithochiton neglectusRochebrune, 1881 are described. Juvenile specimens ofOnithochiton neglectushave tricuspid second lateral teeth, an anterior mucro, an abbreviated gill-line (which does not extend anteriorly to the head), scale-like elements on the dorsal surface of the girdle, and a tegmentum which either lacks or possesses only a few, relatively large, ocelli. The taxonomic significance of these observations is discussed, with special reference to the status ofOnithochiton marmoratusWissel, 1904,Icoplax chathamensisDell, 1960, and the subgenusAnthochiton (Nodiplax)Beu, 1967.

摘要:
Aerial traps were used to continuously sample the airborne fauna at various heights in mixed lowland forest for about 2 years. Insects were the dominant constituents of catches. Flies (75.7%) and beetles (5.3%) dominated catches in traps at 3, 12, and 22 m above ground, but there were significantly fewer beetles at 22 m than at other heights. Small insects predominated in the sample, having possibly been carried upwards in convection currents. Generally, more invertebrates were caught from spring to autumn than in winter. The aerial trap catches of beetles, flies, and wasps were positively correlated with the numbers caught in emergence traps. The vertical distribution of insects is compared with the catches of some forest insectivorous birds in tiered mist nets in the same study area. About as many invertebrates were caught in broadleaf-podocarp forest as were caught in hard beech forest. However, if flies are excluded, significantly more invertebrates were caught in the broadleaf-podocarp forest.

摘要:
Giant specimens ofLepidioncollected in deep water east of New Zealand are referable toL. inosimae(Günther) andL. schmidtiSvetovidov. Both species can be distinguished fromL. microcephalusCowper by the shape of the vomerine tooth patch and by differences in head length and orbit diameter.

摘要:
Six families of fishes — the Aulopiidae, Belonidae, Cirrhitidae, Gigantactinidae, Soleidae, and Veliferidae — are new records for the New Zealand region. These bring the number of teleost families known from the area to 165.
