A cytogenetic chromosomal analysis was performed in 140 infertile men with cryptorchidism – 85 with unilateral and 55 with bilateral. The most frequent anomaly was sex chromosomal aneuploidy found in 7.1% of patients. This is significantly higher compared to a group of infertile men with normal descended testes. Other chromosomal anomalies were not more frequent than in infertile men without cryptorchidis

In an open, prospective clinical trial, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of apalcillin in the treatment of complicated urinary tract infection. 21 hospitalized adult patients received apalcillin 2 g IV Q8-12h for 5–17 days. There were 8 upper tract and 13 lower tract infections. Of 25 functional or anatomic abnormalities of the GU tract among these patients, 9 (36%) were corrected during the study period. Effectiveness of apalcillin was determined by clinical and bacteriologic response. 16 (76.2%) patients had clinical cures, 4 (19.8%) had clinical improvement, and 1 (4.8%) had clinical failure. Based on 26 pretreatment isolates, there were 16 (61.5%) bacteriologic cures and 10 (38.5%) failures. Failures were due to 6 (23.1 %) relapses, 2 (7.7%) superinfections, and 2 (7.7%) relapses with superinfection. Adverse reactions were mild, transient, and did not require discontinuation of treatment. Apalcillin appears to be a safe, although marginally effective single agent antibiotic for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infection

The perioperative management of patients with hypokalemic familial periodic paralysis is well known and has been described previously. This disease does not preclude surgery as long as the surgical team is aware of the diagnosis preoperatively. We describe herein a patient with familial periodic paralysis diagnosed the first time 1 day after undergoing surgery.

Two cases of the urothelial cancers associated with extramammary Paget’s disease are reported. In one patient, vulvar Paget’s disease was discovered 6 years after complete resection of a ureteral tumor. In another patient, vulvar and vaginal Paget’s disease developed during a period of repeated transurethral surgery leading up to the final total cystectomy for recurrent bladder carcinoma. Since genital Paget’s disease is frequently accompanied by internal malignancies, a skin biopsy is mandatory when an eczematous lesion has been persistent in the genital region of patients with genitourinary

A 24-year-old female with classic exstrophy of the bladder was treated with cystectomy, construction of a Kock continent ileal reservoir, and closure of the abdominal fascial defect using alloplastic material. The Kock ileal reservoir improved the quality of her life not only physically but also mentally by affording her urinary continence.

In 1 out of 56 patients, orchiectomized in the course of treatment for prostatic carcinoma, metastatic growth in the testis was found. This uncommon metastatic spread is a sign of advanced disease.
