摘要:
ABSTRACTThe management of political–economic interdependence is rather neglected in political theory as well as in political research. We propose a tentative framework of analysis concentrating on the processes of interaction between ‘politics’ and ‘economics’. Three levels of interaction are introduced and discussed in relation to current literature and to the contributions to this ‘special issue’. In particular, attention is paid to the potential role of political and non‐political factors, the extent to which interest‐aggregation and modes of conflict‐regulation are important, and to the salient feature of the degree of correspondence between public policy–formation and its consequences in terms of

摘要:
ABSTRACTIn view of an ongoing debate on the relevance of political parties in public policy formation, this article discusses capacities and limits of party control over public policy in advanced capitalist states. Due to a strong political–economic interdependence, parties, like any other relevant public or private actor, have only severely limited capacities to influence public policy formation. This, however, does not imply that parties do not matter. Rather, the ‘parties do not matter’ theories contain a misunderstanding of the role and the influence of parties. Parties still may have considerable capacities for imposing guidelines and restrictions on the policy process. These capacities, however, depend on conditions which are often difficult to be effected. As a result, the prospects of party government are rather ambiv

摘要:
ABSTRACTIn this article the growing dissent and tension with regard to the relationship between political factors, public policy‐formation and the consequences (in terms of economic performance) will be investigated. Our point of departure is to find out to what extent political variables matter and which other factors may account for the above relationship. The main result is that, apart from the impact of ‘politics’, the existence of a corporatist mode of interest‐mediation and conflict‐regulation consistently strengthens the explanation of policy‐formation and policy‐performance. In addition, it appears that, especially after 1974, political factors gain influence, albeit more often than not in circumstances of political consensus and where right‐wing parties are relatively weak. If the interdependence between ‘politics’ and ‘economics’ is managed in a consensual fashion, it will lead to a better economic performance and may be an adequate respons

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe intensity of the distributive struggle is an important determinant in explaining cross‐national differences in unemployment and inflation during the economic crisis of the 1970s. Unemployment is analysed as a result of corporate actions to counter the falling rate of profit. In countries with a high level of distributive struggle, the reduction of the labour force has been the main method of coping with problems of profitability. In countries with a low level of distributive struggle, other methods have also been used. Production costs have been stabilized by means of moderate incomes policy and by revaluing the currency. As a result of these policy differences, both the rates of unemployment and inflation were moderate in countries with a low level of distributive struggle, while countries with a high level faced severe problems of unemployment and inflatio

摘要:
This paper analyses the Interest Group approach to political choice, an approach that has recently been adopted by economists. The paper argues that Interest Group theorists have overlooked, and sometimes denied, the potential of their approach to distinguish between optimal and non‐optimal (or ‘inefficient’) policy outcomes. The analysis is illustrated with examples from banking regul

摘要:
ABSTRACTThis article takes up some crucial problems raised in the contributions to this issue and discusses them theoretically in order to show some avenues for further research. The article reconsiders the impact of a high political‐economic interdependence on policy‐making and suggests some new questions for public policy analysis. More specifically, the importance of structural arrangements and of the complex relationship between structural arrangements, types of policies and policy‐outcomes is stressed. Finally, some avenues for further research are out
