摘要:
A brief biography is given of Alexander Tornquist (1868–1944), professor of geology (and related subjects) successively in Strassburg (now Strasbourg), Königsberg in Preussen (now Kaliningrad) and Graz. He was not the first scientist to detect the lineament marking the south-western border of the East European (Russian) Platform, but his was nevertheless a pioneer effort in synthesizing the local studies to illustrate the major importance of the feature in the regional geology of Europe, presenting it in the international literature of his time. Hence, it has been referred to by subsequent authors, widely and with justification, as the ‘Tornquist Line’.Project Tornquisthas been the prescribed key title for the IGCP project, whose full title isEast European Platform (south-western border).

摘要:
Caledonian orogenic movements and metamorphism have been found not only in the Atlantic main zone from Scandinavia and Scotland but also along a continental zone which lies at angle to the main one; the two zones form limbs of a Y-shaped regional structure. The continental branch in this tectonic structure was developed roughly parallel to the SE-trending Tornquist Lineament which forms the south-western boundary of the East European Platform. The latter is one of three crustal plates bounding the European Caledonides.

摘要:
Proterozoic hyperite dolerites and syenites from the Scanian part of the Protogine Zone (Sveconorwegian Front) have the same characteristic remanence direction after alternating field demagnetization. The direction isD= 297.2°,I= −83.8°, α95= 3.7°,k= 114.6, which gives a palaeopole at 49°S, 211°E,dp = 7.1°,dm= 8.3°. The pole position, and a majority of K-Ar datings on the rocks studied, implies that they became remagnetized during the Sveconorwegian regeneration. This new remanence was not affected by a later intrusion of a dolerite swarm in the intersecting Fennoscandian Border zone. A tentative apparent polar wander path for the Sveconorwegian is presented.

摘要:
Acritarchs are reported from units of the basal Cambrian sequences in Denmark (Bornholm), southern Sweden (Scania and Västergötland), and southern Norway (Lake Mjøsa area). The acritarch assemblages recovered indicate aHolmiaage for the rock units investigated. Correlations are suggested with theHolmia‘stage’ of the Russian Platform and Poland, which have previously yielded abundant and biostratigraphically diagnostic acritarch assemblages. The stratigraphical ranges of certain Lower Cambrian fossils are discussed in the light of currently available micropalaeontological evidence. It is concluded that in the past the biostratigraphical importance of some of these fossils has been overestimated.

摘要:
The Lower Cambrian strata above the Rispebjerg Sandstone in Scania (Skåne), southern Sweden are briefly described and the term Gislöv Formation is introduced for them. The vertical distribution of the faunal elements is described for the first time.Holmia sulcata, a member of theHolmia kjerulfigroup, andProampyxcf.linnarssoniare taken to indicate the presence of theHolmia kjerulfi-groupZone and theProampyx linnarssoniZone. The correlation is discussed, inter aliaon the basis of a specimen which may belong toCalodiscus lobatus. Ellipsocephalus lunatusn.sp. is described.

摘要:
The Middle Cambrian Kalby Member of the Exsulans Limestone Formation exposed at the Læså rivulet on the island of Bornholm, Denmark, consists of a lower marl bed (previously known as the Kalby clay) and an upper pyritic bed. The marl bed in its present development is an unconsolidated unit; it has abundant trilobite moulds, mainly phosphatic microfossils, and contains about 35 wt. % CaCO3in the form of finely dispersed, non-cementing calcite grains. The marl bed is interpreted as a weathering residue of a former limestone corresponding to the Exsulans Limestone. In a consolidated state and soon after its deposition it was subjected to tectonic movements taking place in the Middle Cambrian. Its present lithology represents local decay of the carbonate rocks, including the overlying Andrarum Limestone Formation, in the Læså area. The faunal analysis of both beds of the Kalby Member is much extended, the fauna showing great similarity to that of the Borregård Member of the Øleå section, which suggests contemporaneous deposition of both members of the Exsulans Limestone within the time span of theTriplagnostus gibbusandTomagnostus fissus-Ptychagnostus atavuszones. The present findings support early observations on the marl bed as a secondarily decomposed carbonate rock, and the evidence is directly against subsequent theories of the bed having remained unconsolidated since its deposition. There is no definite evidence to support theories of the bed containing Lower Cambrian fossils which have been reworked and redeposited several times.

摘要:
The sediments encountered in the Valhall bore No. I, Scania (Skåne), were examined palynologically. The microflora found was sparse and not well preserved. The palynomorph content of the samples examined was compared with other European microfloras of similar age. In the Valhall sediments two assemblage zones were differentiated (on the grounds of palynomorph content) and these were tentatively correlated with the knownRhaetipollis-LimbosporitesandPinuspollenites-TrachysporitesZones, which are of Middle Rhaetian and Hettangian age, respectively.
