摘要:
Birch leaves (Betula alba), as well as A0, A2, B2and C soils can only rarely indicate the underlying rock type. Plants may show only anomalous concentrations of characteristic elements such as Ca above limestone and Cr or Ni above gabbro. If the plant compositions are used to distinguish types of basement rock, they could differentiate slightly between limestone and quartzite, limestone and granite, and porphyrite and granite, using their Ti, Al and Cu data, respectively. B2soil analyses could differentiate between limestone and silicate rocks in the basement, using Ca or Mg data. Plants have also a limited capacity to reflect the underlying soil, only Fe data are highly correlated with those of C and A0soil. Compositional correlations between plants and soil or rock are strongest in wetlands. 3 out of 5 such sites have anomalous contents of some metal in both birch and soil.

摘要:
Rocks bearing corundum and spinel (mostly hercynite-rich) occur in the Saxberget area, central Sweden. These rocks are quartz-free and most of them are phlogopite-chlorite schists with or without orthoamphiboles. Magnetite, garnet, cordierite or orthoamphibole are essential minerals in other corundum- and spinel-bearing rock types. The rocks have been affected by two low-pressure thermal events. The first of these reached temperatures of high-grade metamorphism, the second temperatures of medium-grade metamorphism. The latter, which was a static metamorphism, produced the non-schistose corundum-bearing assemblages. Inclusion-free corundum is found together with cordierite and spinel, but also together with magnetite. In the latter case corundum and hercynite exsolved from an aluminous magnetite. Symplectites of corundum and magnetite or corundum and pyrrhotite/chalcopyrite are found in chloritized parts of the samples. They are formed by retrograde oxidation of hercynite to corundum and magnetite. The pyrrhotite is attributed to a later sulfurization of magnetite.

摘要:
At Ullstorp, close to the fault of the Nävlingeåsen horst in northeastern Scania, Sweden, a 10 m thick Upper Cretaceous terrigenous clastic section underlies medium grained bioclastic limestones. The clastic section is interpreted as having been deposited rapidly in a nearshore environment. The interpretation is based on paleontological and lithological grounds. Two conglomerate beds in the section are interpreted as a result of storm events. A third conglomerate bed, composed of matrix supported angular clasts (many of them glauconite coated), is interpreted as a debris flow deposit. Negative sedimentation is indicated by a glauconite coated hardground near the top of the sequence. Changes in sea level are reflected in the composition of the foraminiferal fauna. Other faunal elements comprise benthic invertebrates of nearshore origin, including a large inoceramid specimen.
