From Middle and Upper Ordovician erratic boulders of northern Germany and Gotland (Sweden) the following new species of ostracodes are described:Bolbihithis abdominalis, Brevibolbina pontificans, Brevibolbina fissurata, Tvaerenella postpleta, Deefgella dajsiveteri, Pseudulrichia ullehmanni. The genusDeefgellaof the Perspicillinae (Tetradellidae) is new.

Kineto-stratigraphic studies through a cliff section on the island of Sejerø, Denmark, have revealed the presence of three till beds (interbedded with stratified meltwater deposits) related to the Main-, the East-Jutland-, and the Belt Sea advances respectively. Below the tills there is a stratified deposit of clayey sand and silt with an admixture of organic material. The pollen in the organic part contains high percentages of Cyperaceae and Gramineae; radiocarbon dates of 36900 ± 460 B.P. and 36710 ± 460 B.P. from the deposit suggest a correlation with the Hengelo Interstadial in the Netherlands.

摘要:
An account of observations of fossil ice wedge polygons at Hässleholm in the province of Skåne (Scania) is presented. The polygons are very large, 35 × 65 m, and the pattern orthogonal. They were formed on the surface of a small glaciofluvial delta, when the inland ice receded from northern Skåne during pre-Bølling time. Some ice-wedge casts in the distal part of the delta have been eroded in their upper parts. Several syngenetic fossil ice wedges and fossil ground surfaces with frost cracked stones and ventifacts indicate a rising water level in the Baltic Ice Lake. Large nonsorted circles are also present. It is possible that the circles were formed by thermokarst phenomena. A preliminary report is given of an inventory of fossil frost fissures in southern Sweden. The paleoclimatic environment there at the time of recession of the inland ice is discussed.

Diatom and pollen analyses have been carried out on three peat deposits in Södermanland. Certain levels have been dated by the14C method. Two of the peat bogs investigated are located in isolated basins and the thresholds are situated 20 and 34 m above sea-level, respectively. The third peat deposit is a spring-mire, the progressive areal expansion of which is shown from14C datings. The basin of Frillingsmossen, with a threshold at about 34 m above sea-level, became isolated at 3185 ± 140 B.C. The basin of Åtorpsmossen, with a threshold at about 20 m above sea-level was probably isolated about 1000 B.C. According to14C datings in Herminiumkärret, the peat-growth around the springs started before 145 ± 100 B.C. The peat-growth advanced with an average rate of about 3 m per hundred years. The pollen diagrams and the datings show thatPiceaimmigrated into the area at about 200 A.D. About that timeUlmusdisappeared andTiliadeclined.Tilia, however, grew in the area till about 1000 to 1200 A.D. when it disappeared and the large expansion ofPiceatook place. The surface vegetation of two of the peat deposits is reported on.

The original description of the ichnogenusOphiomorphaLundgren, 1891 was published in Swedish. An English translation is provided to make Lundgren's comments available to a larger audience. Lundgren's description deals with two formsof Ophiomorpha nodosain loose rocks from southern Sweden. The first form consists of cylindrical to slightly conical objects with knobby surfaces. They are straight or slightly curved, and some are compressed. Diameters are 18–30 mm, and lengths 30–110 mm. The specimens appear to be fragments of longer objects consisting of ferruginous claystone. The few scraps of surrounding rock adhering to their surfaces suggest derivation from beds of ferruginous claystone or sandstone. The second form consists of external molds, but a few specimens have a piece of nearly smooth core preserved. Between the core and the mold is a space as much as 2 mm wide. The impression (mold) is dimpled by pits 2–5 mm deep and typically wider than high. Maximum and minimum diameters of the molds vary from 16×7 mm to 28 × 17 mm, while maximum preserved length is 25 cm. This form ofOphiomorphais straight to slightly curved and one specimen is branching. No bedrock sources are known for these two forms ofOphiomorpha, but the first may be Tertiary. Reference: B. During the summer of 1980 the Swedish ice-breakerYmerserved as a platform for an Arctic expedition carrying out an intense scientific program in the area from Franz Josefs Land westwards to Greenland, with emphasis on Svalbard and the surrounding seas. The geo-program included studies of the physical geography and Quaternary geology of Nordaust-landet and surrounding islands, and northeasternmost Greenland, with concentration on studies of glacial chronology and shore-line displacement, and special emphasis on the age of the ice-free areas. Marine geological and geophysical work was concentrated on transects across the shelf areas north of Svalbard, to the deep Arctic basin, and across the spreading zone between Svalbard and Greenland. It included dredging and coring, with heat flow measurements, and magnetic and seismic profiling. Glaciological work on small, low-lying and comparatively young ice-caps was carried out on some islands to the east and south of Nordaustlandet.
