Three stromatoporoid species,Baastadiostroma typicagen. et sp. n,Scaniostroma gracilisgen. et sp. n., andNeuropora scamense sp. n. from the Campanian of Skåne, Sweden, are described. A new superfamilyNeuroporicae, is suggested for the neuroporids.Neuroporicaeis characterized by its microstructure, which consists of elongated trabeculae arranged in a cone-in-cone pattern.Baastadiostromais placed in a new family,Baastadiostromidae, which is characterized by the presence of a circumlamellar microstructure.

The problems of the Scanian horsts comprise their genesis and age. Not only the elevations of the Gneissie-Granitic Basement, forming structural and topographic highs because of their resistance to weathering (Söderås, Kullen, Hallandsås etc.) have to be mentioned in this connection. There exists a great number of minor forms, which differ materially in composition and resistance and display some variety of character, but. obey the same deeper causal forces. These are: 1. antithetic movement of the fault blocks; 2. reverse drag and 3. transverse tectonics. Although complex in detail, is each structure the result of the interplay of these factors. — The tectonic behaviour clearly demonstrates the relation of the structures to the Saxonic movements in Scania. Their age is accordingly post-Variscian.

Hydrothermal experiments have been carried out, using three, mixed-layered, natural, clay minerals as starting material. The results allow of a qualitative comparison being made with experimental work done in a simplified chemical system. Three major parageneses are proposed — one in which fully expandable phases are stable, one in which a more restricted range of expandability is possible, depending upon the temperature, and a third in which the illite —allevardite (about 30 % expandable ordered structure) assemblage is predominant. The trioctahedral equivalents of these minerals appear to be stable at higher temperatures.

The author has observed some 50 ridges in the vicinity of Arvidsjaure in northern Sweden, some of which were examined in an attempt to find out how they were formed. The locations of the ridges, their shapes, the fact that they consist of a loose sandy till as well as glaciofluvial sediments and the lack of preferred orientation of the elongated stones show that the ridges, in the opinion of the author, were formed through the accumulation in open crevasses of a thin, more or less dead ice.
