Loess sequences in Czechoslovakia and Austria contain continuous sedimentary record from Pleistocene extending into Matuyama epoch. Climate changes are sensitively registered in much more detail than in deep-sea cores. Close correlation has been established between loess system and the deep-sea chronology, based on position of Brunhes Matuyama boundary and on closely corresponding cyclic repetitions of glacial-interglacial interval. Individual cycles are sawtooth-like in character, and delimitated by pronounced lithological and paleontological boundaries called Marklines, synchronous with Terminations of Broecker and Donk (1970). During “Termination-time” the Earth warmed much faster than at any other past interval and from pleniglacial thermal minimum reached interglacial thermal maximum. Lithological and paleontological evidence of this change is one of the best climatostratigraphic criterions of Pleistocene especially usefull in interregional correlations. Gradual cooling of globe during each Glacial cycle was synchroneous with corresponding trends in ice volume build-up, sea water temperature, sea level stands, soil development and faunal and floral zones shifts. Correct dating of Pleistocene sequences and of past climatic changes must take in account simultaneously all above mentioned criteria. At least eight completed Glacial cycles are recorded within Brunhes. Rich Biharian (Cromerian) fauna is embedded in youngest soil of Matuyama epoch. Alpine Mindel is with high probability correlative to U zone of Ericson. Hypothetical correlation of Olausson (1961) was found principally correct. Brunhes/Matuyama boundary may be older than 0.7 m.y. but is younger than 1.2 m.y.

摘要:
Samples labelled as weibullite, seleniferous chiviatite and galenobismuthite from Falun in Sweden comprise a mixture of three minerals: weibullite, laitakarite and bismuthinite. X-ray data, cell dimensions and bulk chemical composition of these minerals are known, but analyses of the individual minerals have not been published. This paper describes the following physical properties of the three minerals: colours, reflection pleochroism, reflectivity, anisotropy, anisotropy colours, hardness and etch reactions. Results of microprobe analyses are: weibullite (Bi6Pb4S9Se4) (Z = 2), laitakarite (Bi, (Pb))4Se2S) (Z = 1), and bishmuthinite (Bi, (Pb)4S5Se) (Z = 2).

The structure of the skeleton of the bryozoanPseudohornera bifida(Eichwald) is described in detail. The wall structure is composed of a central granular layer flanked by laminated tissue. The granular layer predates the laminated layer. The skeleton is provided with numerous calcareous rods originating from the granular layer.

Fritz Brotzen (1902–1968), renowned paleontologist and stratigrapher, Fellow of the Board of Advisors to the Department of Micropaleontology at the American Museum of Natural History, Associate Editor for the Contributions from the Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal: Research, Honorary Doctor of Philosophy of the Uppsala University, was born at Stettin and pursued studies in natural sciences at the universities of Berlin and Halle-Wittenberg. In 1933, two years after presentation of a doctor's thesis at Halle-Wittenberg on Silurian and Devonian fishes, he emigrated to Sweden, where he worked for five years at the Paleozoology Department of the National Museum of Natural History in Stockholm. He arrived here as an established student of primitive fish groups, but obviously with an other keen interest; Mesozoic foraminifera and stratigraphy, in which fields he has contributed with a great number of important publications. As seen in the bibliography published herein, containing more than eighty papers and articles, he was a busy writer with a great interest also in many other fields than the above mentioned.

摘要:
When the Scandinavian inland ice left the Erken basin about 10000 years ago the moraine (till) was covered by more than 100 metres of water. Sedimentation started, at first mainly of clay, and has continued up to the present day. Continual land upheaval has decreased the depth of the water and altered the character of the sedimentation.

When L. von Post's diagram showing the “Mathematic relations of the ancient shore-levels of the Vänern-Basin” (von Post, 1933) could be substituted by an ordinary distance-diagram (E. Nilsson, 1953) it was obvious that no irregular earth-movements had occurred in this region during the Late-Quaternary time.
