摘要:
A description is given of a new type of sampler with a large sampling capacity. The total length of the sampler is 4 m, which is divided into two links measuring 2 m each. The free area of intersection amounts to about 120 cm2. The sampler is intended to be used mainly for boring purposes in mud layers.

During February—March 1965 a moraine section was studied in the northern part of Lund. The stratification was from top to bottom: Upper Baltic moraine, a thin layer of stratified clay and sand, NE moraine. In the upper part of the NE moraine an ice-wedge could be seen. The countings of rock material in the gravel fraction (6–2 mm) prove that both the intermoraine sand and the ice-wedge have been formed by material from the NE moraine. The long-axis orientation of stones indicates a WNW-movement of the Baltic ice and a NNE-movement of the NE ice. The upper part of the NE moraine was found to be brown grey in coluor while the rest of the moraine was grey. However, no leaching of carbonates or any differences in the contents of colloidal ferric oxide (Fe2O3) have been established at different levels, and neither has any organic material been indicated in the intermoraine sediments. The results of the investigation are in agreement with Möllers (1959) opinion.

摘要:
The feldspars in Swedish glacial clays include K-feldspar, low albite and intermediate plagioclases, but not peristerites. The hydrolysis of K-feldspar leads to the formation of illite under glacial conditions of P, T and μmobile components; chlorite is the stable ferromagnesian mineral in the unweathered clays. Illite + albite + quartz represents a lower energy assemblage than K-feldspar + Na-montmorillonite + quartz.

Cycle concept and the granite problems. Discusses the relationships between orogenesis and plutonism in the Precambrian of Sweden. In 1936, Wahl introduced the termsprimorogenicandserorogenicfor different relations in this respect. Some aspects of the problem are here considered, especially in the light of scientific development in other regions. A review is given of the Cretaceous plutonism in the Cordilleran orogen of the Americas, including reference to an important paper by Gilluly (1963), as this plutonism gives an illustration of geologically contemporaneous primorogenic intrusions, similar in their magmatic development but with different relations to the structure of the invaded formations. Reference is also made to a paper on the “Main Donegal” granite by Pichter & Read (1958). Then the primorogenic granites of Central Sweden are discussed.

摘要:
Experiments in the writer's laboratory in Uppsala have produced orogenic structures by running models of unstable geosyniclinal belts in a centrifuge. In these experiments the centrifugal force plays the same role as the force of gravity in natural-scale structures. The conclusion is therefore that orogens may be produced by the body force of gravity acting on the unstable distribution of masses as found in geosynclines.

Several small sulphide disseminations and vein fillings, characterized by the presence of Ni and Co minerals, occur in a greenstone area around the community of Los, Hälsingland. The largest vein filling, i.e. the Los cobalt deposit, was mined during the 18th century and contains a gangue of calcite, quartz, small amounts of baryte, fluorite and tourmaline in which the ore minerals cobaltite, gersdorffite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, pitchblende, pyrite, arsenopyrite, bismuthinite and marcasite, are found. The wall rock is altered and minerals of the ore paragenesis are deposited in it. These disseminations contain euhedral uraninite and granular pitchblende which apparently represent two generations, the uraninite being older than the main deposition of the sulphides. The genetic relationship of the Co-Ni-Cu-Bi-U-paragenesis is discussed. One age determination by the U/Pb method on pitchblende gives an almost concordant age of 1,690 m.y. which coincides with the age of the rapakivi granites in Finland regarded as contemporaneous with the sub-Jotnian granites (Dala-granites) in the Los area.

Carbonaceous matter has frequently been formed in most parts of the Precambrian bedrock of Sweden. Preferentially it is deposited in fracture zones or breccias. Occasionally the organic matter is associated with uranium or thorium and is then called thucholite. In chemical and physical respects the thucholite is different from the rest of the organic material which is called asphaltite. For both types infrared studies, carbon and hydrogen analyses, carbon-13 and carbon-14 measurements have been performed, also two age measurements by the U/Pb method. The result of the work shows that the carbonaceous matter has been transported by groundwater streaming in fractures in the Precambrian bedrock and deposited down to a depth of several hundred metres. This organic material had a composition which varied within certain limits but is essentially represented by asphaltite. The carbonaceous matter is of plant or animal origin and consists of many different organic compounds. The deposition took place during several stages of the geologic evolution in Phanerozoic time. It is also shown that the organic compounds which constitute the thucholite probably have been subordinate constituents of the organic material. This carbonaceous matter was transported by the ground water to the location of the radioactive minerals and by some unknown chemical reaction U, Th, and Pb were dissolved and a fraction of the dissolved uranium again deposited together with the reactive organic compounds of the carbonaceous matter. Evidently also the compounds with an affinity to uranium are able to extract this element from e.g. radioactive groundwater.

The area includes a part of the Rombak-Sjangeli window of Pre-Cambrian basement unconformably overlain by a thin sequence of autochthonous basal conglomerate, quartzites, etc., which are Lower Cambrian and in part possibly Eocambrian. These are followed concordantly by low-grade micaceous and chloritic schists which are essentially cataclastic in origin and contain tectonic inclusions of Basement rocks. They belong to the Abisko Nappe and are parautochthonous, contrasting with higher grade and completely recrystallized Garnet Mica Schists of the overlying and allochthonous Seve-Köli Nappe.

That all the punctate articulate brachiopods possess puncta with the simple pattern of many Recent terebratuloids is a widespread but incorrect belief; attention is drawn to the fact that puncta of arborescent form exist in articulate shells as well as in some inarticulates such asCrania.Previous conflicting views on the form of puncta in articulate stocks are briefly reviewed, and conclusive evidence of multiple branching of the puncta presented for species ofDicoelosia, with particular reference toDicoelosia biloba(Linnaeus). In view of the doubts cast on the validity of the evidence of thin sections, the branching is here demonstrated by means of iron oxide infillings of the puncta which have been extracted from the shells and also by relative density counts of the puncta taken on the internal and external valve surfaces. Whilst it is considered that the style of the puncta may prove to be important at generic and even familial level, counts of punctation density are not considered a desirable basis for taxonomic discrimination at the specific level.
