摘要:
Active and passive elevation of intraluminal pressure in the denervated gut was studied to determine the effect on blood flow. In an in vitro preparation of canine intestinal segments, the vessels were perfused with donor blood from a reservoir. Blood flow increased with acetylcholine and decreased with elevated gut pressure whether induced actively or passively. Rhythmical alterations of intraluminal pressure passively did not increase blood flow by a ‘massage effect’ over that existing at a corresponding constant mean pressure. With each rhythmical pressure rise arterial inflow waned and venous outflow waxed, whereas the reverse occurred with each pressure drop. Loss of vascular and visceral tonus by poisoning the tissue with sodium azide resulted in a marked increase in blood flow. Stepwise pressure elevations in the lumen of the poisoned gut counteracted the flow systematically. It is concluded that resistance to intestinal blood flow is consistently raised by active as well as passive gut pressure elevations, and that the vasodilation induced by acetylcholine is opposed by these mechanical effects to varying degr

摘要:
In vivo canine gut segments perfused by branches of the superior mesenteric artery were subjected to increased intraluminal pressure to observe the effects upon arterial inflow, measured with an electromagnetic blood flowmeter, and venous effluent collected by a cannula. Inflation of the intestinal segment with air simultaneously reduced both inflow and outflow. Intra-arterial infusion of acetylcholine increased blood flow, even with intraluminal pressure maintained at 40 mm Hg. Mechanical distension of the gut impedes blood flow, but this effect can be overridden by a vasodilator. These findings correspond to results observed in similar experiments on in vitro gut segments.

摘要:
The contractile behaviour of the smooth muscle of coronary vessels was studied in the cow and in the horse after different kinds of stimulus. The findings obtained with bovine vessels as well as the differences between cow and horse vessels are attributed to the existence of vasoactive substances in the vessels of the cow and their lack in those of the horse.

摘要:
The normal anatomy of the splanchnic vessels and the different connecting circuits between the coeliac artery and superior mesenteric artery and between the superior and inferior mesenteric artery have been described. It was pointed out that in presence of a high resistance due to stenosis or occlusion in one of these vessels, the blood flow will be diverted even in reversed direction in one of the serpentine anastomoses. Therefore the presence of dilated anastomatic channels is good evidence of stenosis elsewhere; the former are seen more frequently in patients without clinical symptoms of intestinal ischaemia than in those in whom this is present, as was also demonstrated in 8 personal examples.

摘要:
The sclerosant hydroxypolyethoxydodecan (HPD) was studied in rats, and the results were compared with those from a previous study of tetradecyl sulphate of sodium (TSS). There appeared to be no significant difference between the two. The sclerosant efficiency increased with increasing concentration up to 6%, but a higher concentration than 6% is unlikely to be more effective in the rat or in man. In man, good results probably depend on exposure of the endothelium to sclerosant undiluted with blood for 1 s, and the total volume of 6% HPD or 6% TSS injected at one visit should not exceed 10 ml.

摘要:
The effect of hydroxyethylrutosides (HR) on a series of 64 patients is reported. All patients received 400 mg 3 times daily. These patients were divided into groups as follows. Thirty cases of uncomplicated chronic venous insufficiency, in which a clear reduction of oedema, pain and restlessness of the legs was demonstrated; 6 patients with post-traumatic oedema in which 5 Showed quick resolution of the oedema; 15 patients with cramps due to arterial ischaemia, in which an improvement was obtained only in the milder cases; 10 cases of ‘idiopathic leg cramps’ in which a very marked improvement resulted; 3 isolated cases of Raynaud’s Disease which resulted in a quite dramatic improvement. Thus the most clear and assured effect of HR seems to be an anti-oedematous one, and may be explained by an action on resorption at a capillary or venule level. Such an effect is shown to be useful in chronic venous insuffic
