摘要:
The epidermal anatomy, with special reference to the glandular trichomes, is surveyed in the Asian species of the genusCombretum.Emphasis is laid on the value of such characters in reviewing the sectional classification of the genus. It is concluded that sectionsQuadrangulares, Squamosae, TetragonocarpusandFlagrocarpeaeshould be amalgamated to form an enlarged sectionTetragonocarpus. It is also likely that sectionsQuisqualoides, OvalifoliaeandDasystachyeae, and sectionsDecandra'eandKaloëdron, should be amalgamated

摘要:
InLinum pubescensBanks&Solander andL. mucronatumBertol. two floral morphs occur, differing in style length, stamen length, size of stigmatic papillae and, inL. mucronatum, exine sculpture of pollen grains. In both species artificial self‐ and intramorph cross‐pollinations were incom, patible. Intermorph pollinations resulted in seed production. The inhibition of pollen‐tube growth in incompatible pollinations occurs within the stigma. InL. pubescensdistyly seems to be governed by a single pair of alleles. In natural populations the two morphs were found to be represented by approximately equal numbers of individuals. The effectiveness of the complementary arrangement of anthers and stigmas in promoting intermorph pollinations and in preventing pollen wastage in incompatible pollinations is disc

摘要:
Cockscomb (Celosia cristata) was generally believed to have arisen from the weedyC. argentea. However, the former is 4x while the latter is 8x. Grant's suggestion that the 4x species gave rise to the 8x was rejected by horticulturists and taxonomists, who felt that a grotesque cultigen like cockscomb could not be a parent of an old and widespread weed likeC. argentea(8x). With the discovery in Central India of a wild 4x form ofC. argenteashowing potentialities for fasciation and perfect compatahility with cockscomb (4x). the origin of the latter is quite easily understood.

摘要:
Hexaploid chromosomal races ofGlobba cernuaBak. andG. patensMiq. show overlap in geographical distribution. Hybrid swarms in three separate localities on the Main Range in Malaya are analysed both morphologically and cytologically. Evidence indicates that introgressive hybridization ofG. cernuaBak. byG. patensMiq. has taken place.

摘要:
The leaf anatomy is compared of 35 ppecies and one variety ofAgave, three species ofFurcraea, one species ofBeschorneriaand one species ofDoryanrhes, four genera assigned to the tribe Agaveae by Hutchinson in his classification of the family Agavaceae. The genera can be readily differentiated by leaf anatomy. There are close similarities betweenAgave, BeschorneriaandFurcraea, butDoryanthesdiffers widely from these genera. Sufficient anatomical differences exist to differentiate theAgavespecies examined.

摘要:
Hybridization experiments indicate thatPteridium aquilinumfrom Hawaii andP. aquilinumfrom the Galapagos Isles are intersterile. Both of these populations will cross readily with other New World collections ofPteridium.Evidence suggests that the Galapagos populations are genetically distinct from the South American populations. The genetic divergence of the Galapagos populations has not been accompanied by morphological divergence.
