摘要:
The foliar anatomy of 15 Malaysian species ofChionanthusand 3 species ofOleais described and compared with particular reference to sclereids. The anatomy of the two genera is similar except thatChionanthusshows a wider range in sclereid form, eight kinds ofsclereid are recorded. Filiform sclereids are present in allOleaspecies and mostChionanthusspecies examined, additional kinds ofsclereid found in theseChionanthusspecies include astrosclereids, dendrosclereids, osteosclereids and polymorphic sclereids, with brachysclereids of several forms in the petiole. Quantity of sclereids is not related to coriaceousness, which is determined by leaf thickness. Anatomical characters do not support any major grouping of species withinChionanthusand provide further evidence that the sections,EulinocitraandCeranthus, are untenable. The distinction between the lepidote scales ofOleaand the peltate hairs common to all oleaceous genera is discussed.

摘要:
An examination of the south Patagonian and Fuegian plant,Phaiophleps lyckholmi(Dusén) R. C. Foster, shows that it can be distinguished from the more widespreadP. biflora(Thunb.) R. C. Foster by its leaf anatomy and perianth colour; these taxa can also be separated on the lengths of the peduncle and filament‐tube, and on the shape of the perianth tube, although there is some overlap in these features. Because of the intermediates it is proposed that the two taxa be recognized as subspecies–P. biflorasubsp.biflora, occupying grassland and dwarf‐shrub communities at altitudes below 700 (‐1000) m, reaches north toc.46oS latitude in Patagonia, whileP. biflorasubsp.lyckholmi(Dusén) D. M. Moore Stat. nov., is restricted to open habitats above (150‐) 1050 m in Tierra del Fuego and Patagonia south of 48o50

摘要:
A re‐evaluation ofMelanosporaCorda and similar genera is presented, based mainly on new data obtained by SEM examination of the ascospores. Eight genera are accepted:Melanospora(nine British species, includingM. longisetosaP. Cannon&D. Hawksw.),PersiciosporaP. Cannon&D. Hawksw. (includingP. moreauiP. Cannon&D. Hawsksw. andP. masonii(Kirschst.) P. Cannon&D. Hawksw.),Phaeostoma(one species),Scopinella(four species; two in the British Isles),Sphaerodes(six species, includingS. beatonii(D. Hawksw.) P.
