摘要:
A comparative account is given of the anatomy of 14 species ofHydrangeain addition to examples of morphological features drawn from herbarium specimens. On anatomical and morphological grounds there are strong reasons to support the separation ofHydrangea sensu latointoHydrangeaL. andCornidiaRuiz&Pavón. The discussion follows the treatment in McClintock's monographof Hydrangea

摘要:
Seeds of theH. murinumaggregate were collected from much of the range of the group and soluble protein extracts were subject to gel‐electrophoresis analysis. Diploid, tetraploid and hexaploid plants were readily differentiated. Analysis using a similarity matrix and dendrogram revealed further groups within the ploidy levels and indicated inter‐group relationships. Evidence obtained supported karyological results, suggesting that tetraploid and hexaploid plants are allopolyploids, and that one of their putative parents is a diploid known from Turkey and adventive in Australia. Within the tetraploids there is little correspondence between groups detected by either gel‐electrophoresis or karyology, and the speciesH. leporinum(mostly southern) andH. murinum(mostly nort

摘要:
Two closely related species of the diatom genusNaviculawere investigated using light and electron microscopy. A hitherto unrecorded structure associated with the raphe ofN. delogneiVan Heurck is described.Examination of type material revealed that the nomenclatural types ofN. grevillii(CA.Ag.) Heiberg andN. comoides(Dillwyn) H.&M. Peragallo do not agree with the present understanding of these species, therefore alternative names were sought. All the synonyms of each species were traced and a table of synonymy is supplied. The namesN. delogneiandN. pseudocomoidesare proposed as replacements forN. grevilliiandN. comoidesrespectively and types are cited.

摘要:
Cytological investigations on the Indian freshwater Dinophyceae have been carried out for the first time. The unique features of dinophycean nuclear division in confirmity with earlier findings are: (i) chromosomes which remain condensed during mitotic cycle as in interphase; (ii) anaphasic separation of chromatids which is accomplished without the aid of a conventional spindle and (iii) chromosomes which do not reveal any centromeric organization. Chromosome numbers determined for 17 taxa belonging to seven genera range fromc. 56 toc. 220. Chromosome numbers and other karyological features have been evaluated for cytotaxonomic purposes.

摘要:
Seedlings from the Cerro Cuadrado (Jurassic) Petrified Forest in Argentina have been shown to be comparable to extant araucarian seedlings from the sectionsEutacta, BunyaandColombea. Anatomically they are compared to the cone axes and embryos in the fossil cones ofAraucaria mirabilisandPararaucaria patagonica. Two seedlings previously described byWieland areshown on pith structure to belong toP. patagonica. The remaining turbinate to top‐shaped structures are compared with first year extantBunyaandColumbiaseedlings and the coneA. mirabilis. Corm‐like structures may represent an older seedling stage. From earlier work on the embryonic anatomy and germination stages described here,P. patagonicais deduced to have been epigeal andA. mirabilishypog
