A collection from the High Atlas of Morocco drew attention to similarities betweenDraba hederifoliaCoss., a Moroccan endemic, andGraellsiaa genus from S. W. Asia. The morphology, leaf flavonoids, trichomes, chromosomes and distribution of these plants are discussed and a new systematic account ofGraellsiaincorporatingDraba hederifoliais given.

Three new monotypic genera from the Cape Floral Region of South Africa are described.CalotestaKaris, a genus closely related toMetalasiaandAlrichantha gemmifera(Karis, 1989) is characterized by its persistent, thick and strongly cutinized testa epidermis. The more distantly relatedHydwideahas rather large, solitary white capitula and very thick‐walled apical pappus cells.PlaneaKaris is a new genus established forMetalasia schlechteriL. Bol., a species which must be removed fromMetalasia(Karis, 1989).Planeahas strongly carinate leaves with involute but characteristically flat margins and narrowly ovate apical anther appendage with a peculiar marginal pattern. Ontogeny inCotula australis, Leptinella dioicaandL.pyrethrifoliaconfirms the presence of layers derived from the endosperm, testa and pericarp surrounding the embryo in mature cypselae in Asteraceae. The structure of mature cypselae of 24 species, representing all 12 genera that have been assigned to the ‘Cotuleae’, is reported. Several characters that appear to be relatively constant within genera or groups of genera are identified as providing information on affinities above the generic level. The data support the conclusion that the ‘Cotuleae’ is an unnatural assemblage:Cotula, Leptinella, NanantheaandSolivaappear to form one close‐knit group, andDimorphocoma, ElachanthusandIsoetopsisanother, while the remaining genera are highly diverse. The first group appear to be good members of the Anthemideae. Floral morphology and ontogeny in Orchidaceae subtribe Disinae. The flower structure and development of 24 species of the orchid subtribe Disinae are described and illustrated by drawings and scanning electron micrographs with special attention being paid to the gynostemium. The morphogenesis of this subtribe is fundamentally similar to that of the closely related tribe Orchideae. This includes the initiation of the auricles on the anther base in a dorsolateral position, and hence their interpretation as being mere appendages of the filament. The keel connecting the petals and the gynostemium plus its protrusion is considered homologous to the inner lateral staminodeS. Presumed vestiges of the adaxial staminodes were detected in one specieS. A peculiarity of the Disinae is that the entire apex of the median carpel develops into the rostellum, whereas its stigmatic portion emerges from the median carpel below the rostellum in later stages. The main diagnostic feature of the group is the reflexed position of the mature anther. However, it is shown here that this anther movement occurs in the later stages and that the initial anther is erect.
