摘要:
AbstractCriminal and civil proceedings are outlined for cases of intrafamilial child abuse. Statutory reforms and court decisions in the area of sex abuse are reviewed, citing their potential beneficial and harmful effects on both offenders and victims. Finally, the roles of children and mental health experts in court proceedings are discussed.

摘要:
AbstractSexual abuse, the fastest growing type of abuse complaint, often raises issues concerning the credibility of individual allegations. This paper discusses historical, developmental, and societal factors affecting children's credibility and recommended assessment methods that maximize a child's capacity to relate his or her experience. Clinical factors leading to false allegations are discussed.

摘要:
AbstractVerifying reports of intrafamilial sexual abuse has become more complex, with doubts raised about the credibility of children as reporters and witnesses. This article explores factors that influence the interaction between a child's experience of sexual abuse within the family and the description of that abuse in a broader social context outside the family. The child must respond to differing contextual cues that are likely to require opposing constructions of “reality.” Thus the stage is set for uncertainty, self‐contradiction, and lack of reliability. Suggestions are made for improving the handling of reported incest cases by social service and legal sy

摘要:
AbstractExplanations for the etiology of incest can be grouped into four general categories. Although some authors believe that one of the explanations is persuasive for most or all cases of incest, it appears that there is empirical and case report support for all four explanations. In this paper, it is suggested that assessing which of the four explanations best characterizes a particular incestuous family will provide valuable guidelines for determining the most appropriate legal and therapeutic interventions for that family.

摘要:
AbstractTwenty‐nine incest and 22 heterosexual pedophilic offenders, under sentence, participated in a study of therapeutic outcome. Results showed the two groups were remarkably similar in their pretreatment level of psychosocial functioning. However, pedophiles had a significantly higher recidivism rate than incestuous men. Incest offenders, on the whole, changed most relative to single or married pedophiles. Pedophiles appeared more treatment resistant in dealing with their disturbed family relations, verbal hostility, irritability, and feelings of anger that, in part, underlie their sexual anomaly. At follow‐up 36 months later, only 2 incest and 4 pedophilic men had recidivated. The discussion links these findings with earlier research and proposes a multimodal, group‐oriented approach to treating sex offe

摘要:
AbstractTreatment programs for incest offenders traditionally do not differentiate between pedophilic and nonpedophilic perpetrators. This oversight has failed to meet the specialized needs of pedophilic incest offenders, who differ from other incest as well as nonfamilial sex offenders in important ways. This paper describes a treatment intervention combining cognitive‐behavioral therapy and pharmacotherapy for the specialized treatment needs of the pedophilic incest offender. A case report is presented to illustrate the use of combined treatment and to highlight indicators for this strateg

摘要:
AbstractThe present study examined selected demographic and offense history variables and deviant sexual arousal as predictors of reoffense in a group of 35 untreated child molesters. The measure of deviant sexual arousal was based on laboratory measures of sexual preference using penile plethysmography. Factor analysis of the predictor variables yielded three factors. The measure of deviant arousal, the amount of force used in the offense, whether or not the offender had intercourse with the child victim, and the number of previous victims loaded on the first factor, called Sexual Deviance. IQ and socioeconomic status loaded on the second factor, called Social Status. Age of the offender and age of the victim loaded on the third factor, called Offender Age. Entering the sets of three factor scores as predictors in a multiple correlation, over 20% of the variance in recidivism was explained, but the factor Sexual Deviance was the only significant predictor of recidivism (p<.02). Almost 30% of the variance in number of reoffenses was explained, and both Sexual Deviance (p<.01) and Social Status (p<.10) were significant predictors. A cluster analysis identified a group of offenders characterized by low SES and low IQ who also showed higher sexual deviance scores and a high rate of reoffense.
