AbstractThe progress of an outbreak of Scleroderris lagerbergii in Pinus nigra.Tree ring analysis and amount of living branches were used to determine retrospectively the development of the disease in a stand of 3,3 ha. Originating from the southern part of the stand shaded by an old beech forest, the disease started in 1964 with increasing mortality till 1969. Since 1970 the surviving trees have recuperated.

AbstractIn vitroandin vivoinvestigations with 2,4‐D concentrations showed that mycorrhizal fungi were suppressed particularly by higher concentrations while treated seedlings exhibited quantitative and qualitative deficiency in mycorrhizal development. Short roots became elongated or sometimes remained uninfected. Dichotomous root branching was absent inPinus sylvestrisL.
