AbstractLong intermittent exposures ofAraucaria cunninghamiito SO2and NO2produced complex interactions with effects on resource allocation and plant morphology. Exposure to NO2decreased chlorophyll concentrations but increased stem diameter and shoot fresh weight, in an apparent compensatory response, altering the growth form of the tree. The effects of NO2were counteracted by the additional presence of SO2, although SO2alone had little effect.

摘要:
AbstractMycelia ofGremmeniella abietinaisolated from the same ascus were paired in seedlings ofPinus sylvestrisand the production of apothecia determined.G. abietinawas found to be a heterothallic fungus in which mating is controlled by a single locus composed of at least two mating allcles. Independent of climatic conditions isolates of type B produced greater number of apothecia than those of type A.

AbstractFour differentEucalyptusspecies trials, in Natal province, South Africa, were rated for susceptibility toPhaeoseptoria eucalypti. All species found to be susceptible toP. eucalyptibelonged to the subgenusSymphyomyrtus. In contrast, species belonging to the subgenusMonocalyptuswere resistant toP. eucalypti. Trials at Gowan Brae and Sutton indicated thatE. tereticornisandE. camaldulensiswere relatively more susceptible than otherEucalyptusspecies.E: grandis, E. botryoidesandE. salignawere found to be the most susceptible species toP. eucalyptiat Bloemendal and Seven Oaks.

摘要:
AbstractThe effect of site preparation and fertilization on the susceptibility ofEucalyptusspecies toPhaeoseptoria eucalyptiwas examined. There was no significant difference in disease rating between plough and terrace treatments which consistently yielded trees that attained greater heights and possessed a denser foliage. These trees were also less susceptible toP. eucalyptithan those associated with other forms of site preparation. Trace element application reduced the incidence of disease as did the application of 50 % fertilizer at planting and 50 % when trees were 6 months old as opposed to the second half being applied when trees were 3 months old.

AbstractEstablishment of dual cultures of slash pine (Pinus elliottiiEngelm. var.elliottii) with vegetative propagules ofFusarium moniliformevar.subglutinans(FMS) was only partially successful. In contrast, the response of slash pine callus to FMS culture filtrate was significant. Thein vitroselection for FMS resistance using culture filtrate and slash pine callus or plantlets merits further investigation.
