摘要:
AbstractExamples are given of North American fungi potentially dangerous toPinus contortaplantations in northern Europe. The pathogenicity of North European fungi is discussed.P. contortawas found to be immune or nearly immune to all European rust fungi, more resistant thanP. sylvestristoPhacidium infestansandLophodermium pinastri, but less resistant toCrumenulopsis sororiaandDiscella strobilina. For other fungi no such clearcut conclusions could be drawn.

摘要:
AbstractInfluence of continuous fumigation by low levels of SO2on the phenolic contents and phenoloxidase activities in leaves of forest trees.Potted clonal trees of Norway spruce, black alder and English birch were continuously exposed to low levels of So2in fumigation chambers. The phenolic content of the Norway spruce needles was increased consiberably over the controls months before the trees showed any symptoms of damage to the naked eye. Fumigated black alder had a significant higher phenoloxidase activity in the leaves; but this increase only occurred two weeks before the development of necroses. In English birch neither the phenolic content nor the phenoloxidase activity was changed against the unfumigated controls during the course of the experiment.

摘要:
AbstractThe broom rusts of balsam fir and black spruce occur sporadically throughout the island of Newfoundland, but they are not a serious threat to the forests. The incidence and intensity of the rusts vary, but no tree mortality can be attributed to the diseases. The average number of brooms per tree was higher in black spruce than in balsam fir. Also, more brooms occurred on brandies than on tree trunks. Height and diameter growth was less in infected trees than in uninfected trees of both the species.

摘要:
AbstractThe distribution of fluoride in polluted poplars. Detection of fluoride accumulation in roots. In poplars polluted by fluoride, high concentrations of fluoride were detected in the lower part of the trunk, mainly in the cortical zone, and in the roots. This indicates that there is a basipetal translocation of fluoride from the leaves towards storage organs such as roots. This translocation of fluoride appears to be largely subordinate to the translocation of calcium.

摘要:
AbstractConidia ofCladosporiumsp. are frequently present in large numbers in collections of uredospores ofMelampsora larici‐populinamade in the field at Canberra in late autumn. The presence of these conidia considerably reduces the viability of the uredospores and consequently infection of leaves ofPopulus nigravar.italicaunder controlled conditions. Lysis of germinated and ungerminated uredospores under experimental conditions by the mycelium ofCladosporiumsp. has been demonstrated. The potential for control of leaf rust of poplar by hyperparasitism is discusse

摘要:
AbstractAt Florence, Italy, several species of pine were experimentally infected with blister rust. Inoculations were carried out on 3 and 15 months‐old seedlings. After antificial and natural inoculation, Brutia, Aleppo, Austrian, Swiss mountain, Maritime and Italian stone pine showed pyenia and aecia. Spotted seedlings of Ponderosa pine showed only myceliumof C. flaccidumin needle and stem tissues. The exotic species seemed to have a very high degree of resistance to blister rus
