AbstractOne compound isolated from the stem wood ofPinus densifloraSieb. Zucc. is responsible for its resistance toFomes annosus(Fr.) Cke. From thin layer chromatography and microanalytical evidence, the inhibitory compound is nitrogenous and may be an alkaloid.

AbstractThe effect of SO2on the SH‐groups of proteins in needles ofPicea abiesis studied. The content of total protein SH and glutathione is estimated with 5.5′‐Dithio‐bis‐nitrobenzoic‐acid (Ellman reagent). In addition structural protein SH is measured microspectrophotometrically in sections stained with the SH reagent, mercurochrome. The results indicate that GSH and also total protein SH and structural protein SH are increased in needles ofPicea abiesgrowing in SO2polluted areas. AbstractAn undescribed but native species ofArmillariais a secondary pathogen in declining stands ofEucalyptus obliquaandEucalyptus regnansin southern Tasmania. The fungus is almost ubiquitous in healthy and diseased forest and occurred epiphytically or parasitically in local lesions on the roots of 74 % of eucalypts partially excavated in 15 forest stands, 25–75 years of age. The fungus infected 85 % of logging stumps and 64 % of fire killed trees. Although the fungus only infected the sapwood of the eucalypts, it survived in infected stumps for at least 70 years. 摘要:
AbstractThe participation of epiphytic bacteria in the groups of bacteria dominating on the shoots and root collars of two year aspen and white poplar differs both in quantity and quality and depends on the chemical composition of the diffusion exudates related to cambium activity. This indicates that epiphytic bacteria can utilize carbon sources in the exudates and transform lignin precursors.

摘要:
AbstractThe frequency of six mechanisms of resistance to white pine blister rust is presented for 18 white pine species. The mechanisms are: prevention of needle lesions, reduced frequency of such lesions, premature shedding of infected needles, a fungicidal reaction in the short shoot, reactions that eliminate established bark infections, and the ability of a seedling to remain alive when infected. The importance of these mechanisms in selecting for resistance in the very susceptible North American white pines is discussed.
