摘要:
AbstractPhellinus tremulaewas inoculated onPopulus tremula. It spread in the sapwood and inner wood of a living tree without other organisms being present. Plating experiments with wood meal from different parts of a sound tree showed that there were very few, if any, propagules of micro organisms in the sound wood, neither were there any organisms found in front of the decay ofP. tremulaeat the top of the decay column. These results support the theory thatP. tremulaeis a primary parasite in aspen.Decay fungi grown on fresh and autoclaved wood of aspen had very different growth rates. Most of the fungi tested grew best on autoclaved sapvvood. The difference in growth rate on fresh and autoclaved heartwood was lcss significant, suggesting that there is a barrier in the living wood which is destroyed by autoclaving.P. tremulaewas thc only fungus that grew best on fresh inner wood.

摘要:
AbstractInfection of roots of spruce (Picea abies Karst.) by Fomes annosus present in the soil. 108 roots of spruce were severed at approximately 50 cm from the base of the tree. The resulting wounds were invaded byFomes annosusoriginating as mycelium or basidiospores in the soil. Infection rate on limestone soils was 41 %, on other soils 10 %.Odontia bicoloralso grew into spruce roots from the soil.

AbstractStudies on the influence of nutrition on the susceptibility of plants to SO2. The mineral nutrition of plants is of great importance for their susceptibility to air pollutants. Substrate media with ammonia as nitrogen source, deficiency of potassium and low pH‐values reduce the buffer capacity and the cation contents. Buffer capacity and cation contents play important roles for the detoxification of SO2‐borne products. Low cation contents and a reduced buffer capacity produce a severe increase of the SO2‐effects. AbstractThe effect on spore germmation and germ tube growth ofDiplodia pineaproduced by (+)‐ α‐pinene, (−)‐β‐pinene, (+)‐Δ3‐carene, (−)‐limonene, β‐phellandrene, and terpinolene was determined over a range of vapour concentrations. Spore germination was most inhibited by A3‐carene; germ tube growth was inhibited by all these monoterpenes except (−)‐limonenc and ß‐phellandrene. In contrast to the low toxicity of (−)‐limonene, (+)‐limonene (not known to be present inPinus radiatacortical oleoresin) was extremely toxic to both spore germination and germ tube growth. 摘要:
AbstractInfection byFomes annosnsleads to thc formation of dry zones in conifer wood. During an investigation of the mechanism of drying it was found that water was withdrawn from infected parts of logs into uninfected parts probably by the release of hydrostatic tension. The tcnsions which exist in standing trees appearcd to be maintained in logs and to cause movement of water when the sealed tradieid system became sufficiently damaged to allow entry of air.F. annosusapparently caused this typc of clamage by enzymatic lysis in the bordered pit. However the extcnsion of dry zones beyond infection seems to imply a futher mechanism involving living xylem cells.
