摘要:
AbstractDetermination and evaluation of quantitative virus resistance in poplars inoculated with poplar mosaic virus (PopMV).Statistical analysis of data on symptom severity and virus concentration in PopMV‐infected leaves were used to determine differences in virus resistance among poplar clones. These differences were confirmed in ultrastructural studie

摘要:
AbstractFalling needles collected from under individual 70‐year‐old Norway spruce (Picea abies) trees for about four years were checked for fungal fruitbodies. The most common fungi wereLophodermium piceaeandRhizosphaera kalkhoffii. Maximum frequencies of fruitbodies occurred in late autumn forL. piceae(ca. 80% of the needles), in summer forR. kalkhoffii(ca. 60%) and in winter for the third most common fungus,Tiarosporella parca(ca. 10%). The frequencies of needles with fruiting fungi varied greatly within and between years. This is the first report ofT. parcafrom Swe

摘要:
AbstractIsolates ofCylindrocladium quinqueseptatum(CQ), which cause leaf blight ofEucalyptusin Kerala, differed significantly in growth and cultural characters on nine different agar media. Malt extract agar and yeast malt agar and yeast malt agar were the best media for discerning differences among the CQ isolates. Of the 11 carbon (C) and 13 nitrogen (N) sources evaluated in liquid media for their differential utilization by the five selected CQ isolates, five each of C and N sources differentiated them from each other. In general, organic N sources supported better growth and micro‐sclerotia production over inorganic, and hexose and disaccharide over trisaccharide and polysaccharid

摘要:
AbstractLaccase and manganese‐dependent peroxidase (Mn peroxidase) activities were detected in the culture media ofArmillaria ostoyaeandA. mellea. Mn peroxidase was produced in significantly higher quantity by theA. ostoyaeisolates and was purified by chromatography from one isolate of this species. Some properties of the purified enzyme were examined (absorption spectrum, H2O2and MnSO4optimal concentrations, pH optimum and lactate stimulation). Enzymes of potential importance in the lignin degradation (especially Mn peroxidase) byArmillariasp. are compared to those of other root‐rotting fungi. The possible role of Mn peroxidase in modulating the pathogenicity ofArmillariasp. is discus

摘要:
AbstractObservations in the field suggest that certain species of endophytic fungi which occur, but are normally dormant, in the leaves ofQuercus roburcan be stimulated to pathogenic development by the feeding activity of certain gall insects. As a result of the death of leaf tissue the gall is also killed. This antagonistic relationship between endophytic fungi and gall insects is illustrated in the following three examples:Kabatiella apocrypta / Trioza remota, Gloeosporium quercinum / Neuroterus numismalisandDichomera saubinetii / Polystepha panteli.

摘要:
AbstractA yellow‐pigmented, Gram‐negative, aerobic, salicin utilising bacterium‐identified asXanthomonas campestrispv.populiwas isolated from one year old stems of S.matsudana X alba‘Aokautere’ willows exhibiting stem necrosis. Although the bacterium was isolated from necrotic stem tissue almost in pure culture it was not pathogenic to vigorously growing material ofS. matsudana X alba‘Aokautere’ in field inoculations. Stress and predisposing climatic conditions during winter (frost, rain, wind, mild temperatures) are thought to have favoured the initial infections of this opportunistic pathogen. This disease is not consi

摘要:
AbstractBacteria were isolated from both poplar and other plant species. Antagonistic effects of these bacteria on growth and germination ofDothichiza populeawere tested. A total of 195 bacterial isolates were collected, but only 12 isolates from poplars and 31 isolates from other hosts distinctly reduced growth ofD. populeain dual cultures. Some of these growth inhibiting isolates were also examined for their influence on germination of pycnospores. Only some bacterial isolates from poplars inhibited germination, whereas others even stimulated it. On the other hand, all isolates from other hosts than poplars significantly reduced germination rate.
