摘要:
AbstractApplication of the technique of trapping Ceratocystis fimbriata f. platani for the study of the persistance in affected trees. The study of the persistance ofCeratocystis fimbriata f. plataniin affected trees is achieved by trapping of the fungus which is carried out on small branches of London plane, stripped of their bark. IfC. fimbriatais present in samples of wood to be tested, it becomes visible after a few days when numerous perithecia form on the trap. Trapping the fungus by this method has been systematically achieved with young, artificially inoculated trees: in many cases,C. fimbriatapersists in the wood after a period of about 19 to 22 months.

摘要:
AbstractInformation about the entry ofArmillariainto first‐rotation pine and spruce stands was obtained by searching for infected stumps, rhizomorph systems or trees that had been killed. In pinesArmillariafoci were very rare. In pure Norway spruceArmillaria luteaandA. melleawere detected in stumps but rhizomorphs did not extend into the soil; in Norway spruce mixed with oak, by contrast,A. luteasometimes produced extensive rhizomorph systems. In Sitka spruce small groups of trees had been killed byA. ostoyae. All foci investigated in conifers contained different genotypes ofArmillariaand probably originated from spore infection of stumps created by thinning. Some implications of these findings are discusse

摘要:
AbstractConidia ofGremmeniella abietinainfected and caused disease symptoms in annual shoots of both Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Norway spruce (Picea abies) seedlings. In Norway spruce shoots the infection remained largely latent, with only a few seedlings showing symptoms. Mycelial growth inside the shoots was faster in Scots pine than in Norway spruce and was favoured by low temperature in both hosts. The shoots of Norway spruce seedlings had higher endophyte populations than those of Scots pine, and the populations were decreased by low temperatures. Reductions in the normal epiphytic or endophytic flora by acid mist treatments seemed to favour the development ofG. abietina.

摘要:
AbstractCorrelation between root starch content and crown damage of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). During a research project on forest decline in European beech stands the starch content of woody roots apparently of healthy and trees with dieback symptoms were examined by a histochemical method developed by Wargo.A comparison of affected and apparently healthy trees indicated no correlation between starch content of coarse roots and damage class derived from crown symptoms. However, results of these preliminary studies on distribution of starch in the root system of European beech confirmed the data reported in the literature.

摘要:
AbstractDuring the unusually moist 1985–86 growing season, field grown poplars and willows exhibited on the current seasons growth, terminal and side shoot blackening, dieback, leaf spots and stem cankering. Bacteria isolated from infected tissues were:Pseudomonas syringaepv.syringae, P. fluorescens, Erwinia herbicolaandXanthomonas campestrispv.populi(poplar only). Isolates ofP. syringaepv.syringaealone were pathogenic to the original hosts and evoked hypersensitive responses in tobacco leaves. The remaining bacteria were non‐pathogenic and accordingly were considered to be components of the epiphytic microfl

摘要:
AbstractIn a five‐year‐oldPinus radiatastand, trees were pruned to remove 50%, 40% or 25% of the crown and pruning stubs inoculated withDiplodia pinea. Infection occurred in 65–68% of the intensely pruned trees some of which also developed crown wilting and died, but in lightly pruned trees (25% crown removal) only 8% of the trees were infected and no mortality occurred.Pruning and inoculation every two weeks for a whole year cycle showed an infection peak in summer, but extremely low infection level during the rest of the year.A vertical gradient of resistance of infection was apparent along the stem with the basal part being extremely resistant, becoming more susceptible towards the top. Within limits infection also increased with increasing stub dia
