AbstractHypoxylon mediterraneum(De Not.) Mill. proved to be a weakness parasite onQuercus cerris. Evidences are given about the association between pathogenicity of the fungus and water stress of the host.

AbstractA wide range of pathogenic variation was observed among the five isolates ofCylindrocladium quinqueseptatumleaf blight (CLB) which could be distinguished as different physiologic strains on 11 differential provenances ofEucalyptus. Susceptibility ranking of different provenances to five isolates also differed significantly indicating differential interaction between isolates and provenances. Analysis of variance showed that CLB severity of a provenance is mainly governed by the genetically different isolates and also that the provenances have closer genetical relationship. The results provide the first evidence for the existence of physiologic strains in C.quinqueseptatum.

AbstractPerennial cankers on trunks ofQuercus rubraplanted in Germany affect trees from age 30 onward. Symptoms and histopathology are presented and compared with other major causes of bark disorders on Red Oak in Europe. Infection trials with the causal agent,Pezicula cinnamomea(DC.) Sacc., are described and pathogenesis of the disease is discussed along with predisposing factors.

AbstractPseudomonas solanacearum(Smith) was consistently isolated from the wilted plants ofCasuarina equisetifolia. The isolate gave positive reaction to oxidase, catalase and gas production from nitrate and negative reaction for arginine dihydrolase and acid was produced from various carbohydrates. Wilt produced on tomato, egg plant and capsicum indicated that the pathogen belongs to Race I and Biovar IIIof P. solanacearumwhich is a new record from India.

AbstractIn an ancient broadleaved woodland in eastern England that had been coppiced regularly for over 700 yearsArmillaria melleaandA. gallicawere common,A. tabescenswas moderately frequent, whilst Aostoyaeand Acepistipeswere local. Fruit bodies were often abundant in areas coppiced the previous winter. The largest focus of Agallicaoccupied 9 ha and was probably over 500 years old. Large trees were rarely killed but Amelleacaused some root decay in birches. The number of coppice shoots killed byArmillariawas small but became greater as the period since coppicing increased; Agallicawas most often involved. Alder coppice was the most, and hazel coppice the least, affected. The productivity of coppiced woodland in general seemed little reduced by Armilaria.
