摘要:
AbstractInvestigations of the content of inhibitory substances in some Poplar clones by thin‐layer chromatography and the use of micro‐organisms. Poplar leaves and stems (T 39 Wettstein Züchtung, T 213PבForndorf’, T 217Pבvernirubens’) from fertilized plots (P N K) and unfertilized plots were tested microbiologically and by thin‐layer chromatography. Leaf extracts contained phenolic compounds which influenced the growth ofSeptotinia podophyllinaWhetz. Stem extracts were found to contain other substances influencing the growth ofCryptodiaporhthe, populea(Sacc.) Butin. Fertilizing frequently influenced phenol production in bark extracts but only seldom

摘要:
AbstractOn Grovesiella abieticola (Zell. and Goodd.) Morelet and Gremmen.Grovesiella abieticola(=Scleroderris abieticola) is an inoperculate Discomycete (related but distinct from the generaGodroniaMoug. et Lév.,DurandiellaSeaver andPragmoporaMassal.), occurring in Europe and North America on species of the genusAbiesMiller. The fungus is associated with branch cankers and dieback of twigs, although its pathogenicity has not been proved so far. After a three‐weeks period of growth in vitro the fungus develops plurilocular pycnidia oozing bacilliform, unicellular microconidia. It demonstrates an optimal growth at 18–

摘要:
AbstractTwo biotypes ofLophodermium pinastri, perhaps differing in their pathogenicity, were recognised onPinus sylvestrisin NE Scotland. These biotypes are described in artificial culture and are shown to be associated with definite habitats on pines, both in the plantation and in the nursery. In the discussion it is suggested that the present results might help to explain the difficulty many workers have experienced in trying to infect artificially young pine needles withL. pinastri.

摘要:
AbstractA two‐stage, international blister rust resistance test program proposed by the IUFRO Committee on (resistance to) White Pine Blister Rust is described. First, there would be a reevaluation of “naturally” resistant Eurasian white pines from near the original white pine:Cronartium ribicolagene center(s). Next, there would be more sophisticated testing of North American white pines developed by artificial selection and controlled crossing. Key test centers are needed in Siberia, south‐central Asia, the Baltic‐North Sea countries, and in eastern and western North America. Initial Committee inquiries indicate that 5 of the core cooperators could commence testing in the ne

摘要:
AbstractRelationships between nutrition and heart rot attack of Norway spruce (Picea abies Karst.) and the fungistatic effect of its inner bark. The fresh inner bark of Norway spruce stems and roots inhibits mycelium growth ofFomes annosuson malt agar. Nearly all fungistatic substances of the inner bark can be extracted with chloroform and acetone. The acetone‐soluble fraction, which amounts to 13–27% of bark dry matter, was analysed. Up to now 12 phenolic substances have been identified, 5 of them have proved to inhibitFomes annosusin vitro.Open‐air‐experiments showed, that desiccation of the root‐zone, manganese deficiency and nitrogen hypertrophy decrease the inhibitory effect of the inner bark as well as its content of fungistatic substances. The degree of heart rot attack in older spruce stands was found to be negatively correlated with the N‐, Fe‐ and Mn‐concentrat

摘要:
AbstractFrom observations, made in Quebec, in red pine, jack pine and white pine plantations, evidence is provided showing that extensive damage, noticed in 1967, was directly caused by summer frosts during the most critical growth period, as had been demonstrated 20 years before in another plantation in the same area. Similar losses recorded and studied in Canada and in the Northeastern United States, since 1935 appear, in most cases, to be the result of the same unfavourable conditions and not due to the primary attack ofScleroderris lagerbergiiGremmen that should be considered a saprophyte or a secondary parasite on any dead or dying pine branches and stem lesions. Although a disease, attributed to the same fungus in Europe, on pines planted outside their natural range, exhibited different symptoms, its etiology is also questioned.
