摘要:
AbstractThe geographical distribution of the annulateArmillariaspecies was studied in The Netherlands during the period 1983–1992.Armillaria gallica(incl.A. cepistipes),A. melleaandA. ostoyaeappear to be widespread, the first two species being rather common on broad‐leaved hosts growing on clay and loess soils, and the third species common on both broad‐leaved and coniferous hosts on acid sandy soils. The distribution of theArmillariaspecies encountered was primarily determined by soil type. From a silvicultural point of view, A. ostoyae is the most important species, being pathogenic and occurring most frequently on sandy soils, the soil type predominantly used for forestry in The Nether

摘要:
AbstractFamilies of pine seedlings from 40 open‐pollinated trees (mother trees) from the interior of British Columbia (B. C.) were inoculated with two spore mixtures, one from the coast and the other from the interior of B. C. The relative susceptibilities of the 40 families to each spore mixture was assessed and narrow sense heritability with respect to disease resistance was estimated. The results are presented and discusse

摘要:
AbstractEmbryos of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), Corsican pine (P. nigravar.maritima) and Lodgepole pine (P. contorta) were infectedin vitrowithHeterobasidion annosumand the activities of 1,3‐β‐glucanase, chitinase and β‐glucosidase were monitored. Both the infected and control embryos of the three pine species showed the presence of the enzymes. Statistical analysis showed no significant increase (P>0.05) in the levels of 1,3‐β‐glucanase in infected embryos for all the three pine species. However, there was a significant increase in levels of chitinase in infected embryos ofP. contortaandP. nigravar. maritima and also in levels of β‐glucosidase in infected embryos of all three of the pine species. The study has therefore revealed that constitutive levels of glucanohydrolase enzymes exist in the embryos of the three pine species and that the induction of chitinase and β‐glucosidase was a factor in the response of the embryos to stimulation byH

摘要:
AbstractSixteen isolates of microfungi, obtained from freshly felled pine, were screened for inhibitory activity on a number of wood‐decay basidiomycetes. The screening procedure employed a bi‐layer test which involved growing the potential biocontrol isolates on either agar medium or irradiated pine discs. The influence that the two different substrata had on subsequent inhibition of decay fungi may have important implications for the screening of isolates for biocontrol activity. The use of such techniques for screening biocontrol agents is discus

摘要:
AbstractAn inoculation method for early assessment of Larch resistance to Lachnellula willkommii. Efficiency of inoculation with mycelium and ascospores was compared on 4–13‐year‐oldLarix decidua. Only mycelium induced high infection rates. Mycelial inoculum was contained in colonized sorghum‐straw pieces and was introduced in 1 mm diameter holes drilled through the bark in April/May. The main infection was detectable as early as 18 months after inoculation and infection rate increased only until the 28th month after inoculation. The susceptibility of the branches did not depend on their age, their position in the trees, the age of inoculated shoots or the management of the trees. Susceptibility was even for the 1–2‐yr‐old parts of the stems and branches but the oldest parts of the stems were less susceptible. The inoculation method was effective for detecting differences in susceptibility among trees. One seedling from the Alps, and clone 3001–00035, which is the mother of resistant hybrids, were the le

摘要:
AbstractEffects of simulated acid rain and heavy metals on the occurrence ofMelampsoridium betulinumin naturally infected mountain‐birch trees and seedlings (Betula pubescenssubsp.tortuosa) were studied in a subarctic area where background polution levels are low. The short term (2 years) effects of copper, nickel and sulphuric acid, and long term (8 years) effects of nitric‐ and sulphuric‐acid deposition on birch‐rust infection were det

摘要:
AbstractUni‐ and binucleate Rhizoctonia and Pythiaceae fungi were isolated from roots of dieback seedlings. Only binucleate Rhizoctonia strains were present in the roots of healthy seedlings. In pathogenicity tests, uninucleate Rhizoctonia sp. were pathogenic and binucleate Rhizoctonia spp. non‐pathogenic. Pythium ultimum var. ultimum and Phytophthora undulata were the only Pythiaceae fungi that killed 12‐week‐old se
