SummaryA reliable method of estimating blood volume in the rat using [125I]labelled albumin is described. In 16 normal animals the blood volume was found to be 5·59 ml./100 g. body weight (± 0·44 ml. standard deviation). A standard error of ± 0·11 ml. in this technique is small and therefore should allow changes in blood volume due to pathological states to be accurately measured.
