(44–68) human Parathyroid hormone (hPTH) was studied in subretinal fluids (SRF) of 20 human eyes with rhegmatogenous retinal detachments. A (44–68)hPTH carboxyl mid regional radioirnmunoassay was used. Depending on the extent and the duration of the retinal detachments, (44–68)hPTH ranged between normal serum levels (ca. 100–300 pg/ml) up to excessive amounts of 4000 pg/ml with longstanding disease and proliferative vitreoretinopathy.Aqueous humors (AH) of one patient with bilateral iridocyclitis and complicated cataract ranged at 90–132 pg/ml (44–68) hPTH, whereas a control population undergoing surgery for senile cataracts had no detectable (44–68) hPTH in AH. The AH of one diseased eye of heterochromia compli cata Fuchs showed excessive amounts of more than 4000 pg/ml (44–68)hPTH.

摘要:
The study of the permeability of the cornea to 5-iodo-2′-deoxycytidine (IDC), an antiherpetic agent was performed-in the rabbit. In a first experiment, using125I-IDC eye-drops and a sustained contact between the drug and the cornea, we showed that the penetration of IDC in the aqueous humor was important. In a second experiment, using a HPLC method, we studied comparative ocular penetration and metabolism of IDC and 5-iodo-2′-deoxyuridine (IDU).

Some biochemical factors of the iris-ciliary body of the rabbit have been examined for effects induced by water-soluble marihuana-derived material (MDM). Adenylate cyclase activity and sensitivity toβ-adrenergic agonists were unchanged, as measured 4 hours after MDM administration in vivo. Magnesium-dependent and anion-sensitive, but not sodium-potassium, ATPase activities were inhibited 6 hours after MDM administration in vivo, although they were unaffected by in vitro incubation. Topical administration of a potent substance P antagonist had no effect on the time course or magnitude of intravenous MDM-induced ocular effects in rabbit. Intravenously administered sugars antagonized the effects of MDM on intraocular pressure. A variety of drugs which display a range of biochemical effects varying from beta-adrenergic receptor agonism, to alteration of glycoprotein residues were employed. None of the agents employed, ranging from cAMP modifiers to protein synthesis blockers, had any effect on the MDM-induced response. It is apparent that the mechanism underlying the ocular hypotensive effect of MDM does not reside in mediation through adenylate cyclase, ATPase or substance P, but rather through a mechanism mediated by terminal sugar moieties on the molecule. The data suggest that modification of the surface membrane glycoprotein residues on the ciliary epithelium can induce marked alterations in aqueous humor flow rate.

The effects of Hematoporphyrin Derivative Photo radiation Therapy (HpD-PRT) on Greene's amelanotic melanoma implanted into the anterior chamber of rabbits have been examined by biomicroscopy, fluo rescein angiography and histopathology. The tumors were irradiated 24 hours after injection of HpD when both the porphyrin concentration and the por phyrin ratio tumor/iris were highest. Blanching and shrinkage of tumors were the first signs of tumor destruction. Fluorescein angiography as soon as 20 minutes after irradiation found non-perfu sion of blood vessels at the tumor surface. Histo pathological observation of vessel wall destruction is in agreement with this finding. Subtotal tumor necrosis was demonstrated in 12 out of 13 experiments. Necrosis was complete in only one experiment. Clusters of viable tumor cells were found when shielded behind pigment, at the tumor periphery and around some blood vessels. Lens damage was observed after irradiation when the iris pigment epithelium was disorganized by the tumor. The iris contained high concentrations of porphyrin and PRT resulted in depigmentation, non-perfu sion of the capillary bed, damage to larger iris vessels and finally atrophy. Light intensity measurements were performed in vivo during PRT. The average effective attenuation coefficient at 630 nm was 0.56 mm−1at the beginning of irradiation and 0.87 nm−1at the end. Results indicate that as a treatment HpD-PRT in itself might be insufficient but may prove to be an effective modality in combination with other tumor destructive therapies.
