The layout of a simple heat-flow calorimeter for the determination of the thermal power of PuBe-neutron sources is described. Using isotopic composition dates for the radioactive material in the sources obtained from γ-spectromctric measurements the mass of239Pu contained in the PuBe-neutron sources can be determined non-destructively.

The TCAPM was developed to absolute and precise fission cross section measurement for neutron energies from 2 MeV up to 19 MeV. Experimental results of absolute fission cross section measurements on233U,235U,238U, -237Np,239Pu and212Pu are given. Furthermore the TCAPM is suitable for the application of inelastic scattering of neutrons by the analysis of element contents.

n-Silicon was produced by neutron transmutation doping from suitable p-Silicon, which was used to manufacture detector structures. It was pointed out, that these detectors are applicable to provide α-, β- and γ-spectrometry and counting at room temperature. For electron counting and spectrometry, the aptitude of the developed detectors as nuclear radiation sensors for industrial robots was analysed and demonstrated.

Combining the 60 keV scatter-transmission signal (s. d. about 4 wt % ash) with the 660 keV transmission signal thus eliminating residual influences of thickness and density variations the s. d. can be reduced to about 2 … 3 wt % ash. A gauge developed for on-line determination of ash content based on the 2-energy narrow beam transmission method using a micro-processor for data processing was tested at the main conveyour belt of a power station giving a s. d. of about 5 wt % ash with coal thickness variations between 5 and 40 cm.

Design and performance of a radiometric device for the determination of the phase boundary between two nonmiscible liquids are described. The device is based on the principle of simple radioactive relays, but provides maximum information by the connection of limit switch signals.

A flow sheet for the isolation of uranium, thorium and protactinium with high radiochemical purity from uranium matrices was developed. The isotopic compositions and the chemical yield of the different metal ions separated were determined by α-spectroscopy and isotopic dilution, respectively. The developed flow sheet was applied to analyse two uranium matrices, namely: a pitchblende mineral from Atabaska, Canada and old uranium glass manufactured in Joachimsthal, Czechoslovakia. From the isotopic compositions determined, it is found that the uranium in the pitchblende mineral is in equilibrium with its daughters. On the other hand, the activity ratios;234U/238U,238U/235U,231Pa/235U and230Th/234U determined for the uranium glass indicated that this glass was manufactured since 164 ± 16 years and the uranium used in coloring this glass was not completely purified from the230Th daughter of234U.

The application of sulphur-35 as a tracer in industrial metallurgical processes gives additional information on its behaviour in different stages of smelting processes. The sulphur introduced into the process with particular charge materials and fuel behaves in different manner and the dynamics of the changes of total sulphur content in metal and slag has been investigated depending on its carrier and the stage of the smelting process.

The transport of oxidant in the scale formed during hightemperature oxidation of metals has been studied with the use of a two-stage oxidation method. This method enables the observation of the distribution of labelled oxidant in the initially formed non-labelled part of the scale. Stable isotope of oxygen,18O, and radioactive isotope of sulphur,35S, have been used in the study. Oxygen-18 has been detected with the aid of a nuclear reaction18O(p,n)18F. Transversal cross-sections of the oxidized samples have been bombarded with protons in a cyclotrone and then examined autoradiographically. Concentration changes of the isotope have been determined photometrically. It has been stated that in addition to the outward diffusion of metal, evidenced by other methods, the in ward transport of oxidant participates as a rule, in the process of scale growth. The character of oxidant transport has been suggested.

A measure of functionality of agricultural sower is the layout of grains sown in the soil and labelled by radioisotope a method. To determine the precise position of the grains which are sown is a figure of merite. To resolve the problem, a detection system with focusing multihole collimator was used. A probe with collimator travelled on a self-propelled carriage. The detector pulses were ratio transmited to the field isotope lab. To label the grains of cereals, cucumber and beet the isotope99mTc obtained from Mo–Tc generator was applied.
