Liquid-liquid-extraction is an effective separation and concentration process for metal ions in aqueous solution. The paper shows the experimental technique of extraction experiments, especially the automatical measurement of process parameters. The use of radioactive tracers during these investigations allows to obtain basic information about the influence of numerous factors in an extraction system. Examples are discussed.

The235U/238U isotope fractionation occuring in cation exchange chromatography of a system U(IV) –citric acid containing sulfuric acid was investigated at various temperatures. A clear displacement chromatogram was obtained at only a limited composition and pH of the eluent. It was found that235U is depleted at the front of the uranium band, and enriched at the rear. This result was opposite to that observed in the U(VI) complexation systems. The235U/238U single stage separation coefficient ɛ (defined by Eq. (4)) decreased with rising temperature.

Short-lived radioisotopes separated from radionuclide generators are widely used. In the paper possibilities of labelling with the daughter nuclides of the commercially available Mo/Tc-, Sn/In- and Te/I-generators and of the self-made Ba/La-generator in industrial tracer experiments are presented. The transfer of the daughter nuclides from the generator eluates into organic phases and the labelling of oil-phases and solid particles are investigated. The developed simple, quick and efficient methods are suitable for routine application under industrial conditions. Some examples of industrial applications of the generator nuclides are given, too.

An irradiation device containing 740 TBq (20,000 Ci)60Co giving 7.74 × 103C/kg intensity (30 MR/h) and a pneumatic dispatch rabbit system controlled by an automatic system provided with an appropriate programme was built. The Se, Br, Sr, Ag, Cd, In, Hf, Ir, Au and Pt content of samples of different origin can be determined in a volume of 5 cm3with 0.05 – 1 mg/g sensitivity.

摘要:

Applying the XRF technique and the low-energy X-ray backscattering method an attempt of calcium and iron determination, as well as measurement of the ash content in the brown coal was made. A238Pu source, an argon filled propotional counter and a three channel pulse height analyser were used. A simple theoretical model is proposed and obtained results are discussed.
