The principle of the nuclear microprobe, the atomic and nuclear interactions used for analytical purposes, are presented. The various possibilities and the performances authorized are exposed. Application possibilities and some typical examples are given. The main advantages of the nuclear microprobe over the other punctual analysis techniques are emphasized.

Techniques for the instrumental activation analysis of the chlorine content of coal using γ-rays, microtron photoneutrons and neutrons from a252Cf source are described. Yields from the reaction35Cl(γ, n)34mCl are determined at electron energies between 14 and 21 MeV. The chlorine detection limit in coal reaches the value 5 × 10−4% in the case of γ-activation analysis and 0.2% for a252Cf neutron source (5 × 107n/s).

A number of trace elements are determined by instrumental neutron activation analysis in clay, coal and ashes and normalized to the Sc content. The normalized concentrations of Na, Rb, Cs, REE, Hf, Ta, Th and U are constant in coal and the different ash fractions indicating the binding at the clay minerals. In the finer ash particles a small enhancement of Fe, Co, Cu, Ga, Ba and W and a more drastical concentration enhancement of As, Br and Sb was observed and explained by different forms of migration.

Für die weitere Verarbeitung von Siliciumnitridpulvern ist die Kenntnis des Sauerstoffgehaltes wichtig. Mit einem 14 MeV-Neutronengenerator ist über die Kernreaktion16O(n, p)16N eine schnelle und zerstörungsfreie Bestimmung mit ausreichender Genauigkeit möglich. Auf wesentliche Störreaktionen und Fehlermöglichkeiten wird hingewiesen.

Es werden in geschlossener Form Stabilitätsuntersuchungen der kernphysikalischen Gerätchardware (Nuklidanregung, Szintillationsdetektion, Diskrimination, Meβwertaufnahme und -verarbeitung, Peakstabilisierung) vorgestellt. Breiteren Raum nimmt dabei das Detektorsystem cin, das in Form des Sekundäremissionsvervielfachers immer noch dominierend als schnelle Detektoren für mobile Schnellanalysegeräte eingesetzt wird. Nachweisbare und bisher unterschiedlich interpreticrte Effekte der Gamma-Spektrometric wic Drift und Impulsratensprünge sowie Unstetigkeiten bei der Gehalts-bestimmung werden untersucht.
